Good but not best. by Flannelman on 09/05/2012. Trim: 2012 Subaru Tribeca Limited, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Very quite smooth ride.
Cons: Poor fuel economy - needs much larger fuel tank.
Overall review: I previously owned an Outback. The Tribeca has a few things my Outback didn't but is missing some of the convienences the Outback had. Lacks storage space. Door pockets are smaller than the Outback and under the passenger seat is a large computer. No storage there. The Tribeca is much shorter on mileage which I wouldn't mind if the tank held more gas. It's the same 16 gallon tank as in the Outback.

An Overlooked Gem by Joe From NJ on 08/06/2013. Trim: 2012 Subaru Tribeca Limited, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Superb handling for a mid-size crossover - beats the Highlander hands down in both handling and steering feel (no electric steering for Subaru!). SportShift transmission with rev-matched downshifts is a boon to those who miss a manual. Acceleration is adequate, only slightly slower than a Highlander. Front seat comfort is excellent, rear A/C controls and vents are a nice touch. Wonderful Harmon-Kardon sound system. You won't see yourself coming and going in a Tribeca as there are few on the road.
Cons: The third row is nearly useless - to use it requires restricting leg room in the middle row so no one in back is happy. I only use the vehicle as a 5-seater with the middle row pushed all the way back, but even then it's a little tight for anyone around 6'. The vehicle is also a bit narrow. Gas mileage around town is dismal - 12-14 mpg, although highway is as high as 24, 3 more than the EPA rating. The small fuel tank necessitates frequent stops in local driving. The W-shaped dash takes a little getting used to, as does the red back-lit controls at night, but now I can't imagine the car without them.
Overall review: A decent choice for those who want a crossover with better-than-average handling but without the BMW price tag, and who can deal with a little less room and towing/carrying capacity and limited driving range. Pricing is more than competitive for what you get due to sluggish sales.
