Truck? I'd call it more of an extended-bed car. by Henrie from Tacoma on 02/11/2010. Trim: 1997 Isuzu Hombre XS Reg. Cab, Owned 2 years.
4
Pros: Truck starts every time I ask it to do, and hasn't given me any lip when I ask it to haul loads of firewood. Camper shell makes it very convenient when it's raining. Handles excellently, and turns on a dime (It IS, after all, a roller skate.) Excellent gas mileage and absolutely no problems mechanically. This was shortly after GM figured out how to keep things from rusting, so that's a major plus++
Cons: Acceleration is a foreign word to this truck, but what can you expect? Also, it is very disappointing to see the "Hombre" -stickers- all over the place. Honestly, I pulled them all off when I got the chance. The truck had a slippage in the transmission at 27,000 - seems common, and hasn't gotten any worse in the 13,000 I've driven it thus far. Don't expect too many extras, either. These trucks are simple any way you look at it.
Overall review: Overall, I love my truck to death. It's a good truck for someone buying their first vehicle, particularly if they're kinda curious about taking care of their own vehicle. The maintenance is easy, straight-forward, and the lack of accessories can almost be seen as a plus. Parts are cheap, and if you have problems finding them, look for the similarly dressed S-10 or Sonoma models.

The Silent by Scrambler307 from upstate NY on 10/11/2004. Trim: 1997 Isuzu Hombre XS Reg. Cab, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: Good gas, small and versatile, Comfy interior.
Cons: Needed transmission when I bought it (standard trans). I got it for 1500.00 with the cost of tranny. Mechanic said previous owner pounded it...tranny should have gone 200,000 miles. Put new tranny in and for now it seems fine. Also, slight shake in rear-end. Talked with other Isuzu owners and this seems common. Why, I do not know.
Overall review: If tranny holds out I do not forsee any other possible problems. This is a decent truck.

Money Hungry by Luis SA,TX on 12/10/2003. Trim: 1997 Isuzu Hombre S Reg. Cab, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: Excellent braking ability.Awesome cooling system.A/C blows cold very quickly even after sitting hot hours.Only motor reliable.
Cons: Parts do not last long at all. And are Very VERY unreasonable.New alternator $200+ used $95. Annoying constant problems. Like alternator, winsheild wiper motor, body panels just fall off all the time. Rearveiw mirror falls off. Side mirrors crack off and cost close to $65 to replace using a cheap brand. I had mine a year and had babied it and still cost me in the year $1000 to maintain it. I bought mine for $2500 in feb '03 with 83k miles and sold it before anything else happen to it for $1700. Mine only had 93k miles on it and still unreliable. Save your money buy something else. This truck is slow and even shifting manually is undecisive.
Overall review: crappy. hard to sell , makes you even wish it was a real isuzu (i hate isuzu). look up parts price and be amazed.
