Jetta is just another name for wind
by 88ina60zone on 04/09/2012.
Trim: 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SE w/Convenience.

Pros:
Fairlly good steering, cheesy leatherette looks leather. This was on the SE, the S model engine is such an old design.
Cons:
The 5 cylinder has a huge flat spot in its acceleration that feels like the engine takes a moment to figure out what just hit it. The diesel needs fuel filter change every 20000 miles for $113 each time, the auto transmission needs fluid//filter every 40000 miles for about $500 each time, at 120000 miles you have to replace the timing belt/water pump for about $1500. Diesel costs about 30 cents or more a gallon. So it'll be awhile before that diesel TDI catches up with the gas version for cost savings. Did I mention that leatherette imitation leather. Lots of synthetics are used so you cannot usually find oil or coolant or other supplies without heading for the dealership.
Overall review:
Nice driving, lots of repair concerns. Hit and miss kind of car experience. Literally in an accident if the air bags go off it unllocks the doors, starts the 4 way emergency flashers and begins sounding the horn to alert eternity that you may be on your way. The keys are all a reverse laser cut so you have to get them directly from the dealership and it isn't cheap. Recommend it for someone who you don't really like.

Pros:
Handling, turbo-charged engine (torque), brakes, stereo.
Cons:
VW can't and won't fix it. Car has 1,100 miles. CEL (Check Engine Light), EPC light. Car randomly stutters, misfire, etc. After 3 visits to the dealer and videotaping the events, VW acknowledges the error codes, but can't replicate or find a solution. First and Last Volkswagen. After 20 years of owning troublefree Acuras, Hondas, Infinitis, and BMWs - I now own a VW GLI - DAS LEMON!!!
Overall review:
Please save your money. Volkswagen does not back their product and produces their fair share of problematic vehicles. Just search the forums...

High fuel prices want brother the owner of this car @ 50 miles per gallon.

Pros:
I just purchased my 4th Jetta Tdi.( 2nd Jetta Tdi Sportwagon). My last Sportwagon drove me 250,000 miles & it's still going. Just brought home my new '12 Tdi Sportwagon to Memphis from Mobile Ala. and averaged 51 miles to the gallon. Its the best car I have ever owned. Most people can't believe I really get 50 miles to the gallon. Also very comfortable on long drives.
Cons:
Being on my 4th Tdi Jetta I don't recommend the new Jetta tdi sedan. The Sportwagon version of the Jetta is far superior to the sedan. VW has taken all the good stuff out in order to compete with Toyota and Nissan on price. The '12 Sportwagon Tdi is still based on the old design. Buy the Tdi Sportwagon before VW dumbs it down like they did the Sedan.
In addition, the Memphis VW dealer is not the best. Shop around and find a independent repair shop and you will save lots of money. Also if your local VW dealer tells you nobody discounts TDI Sportwagons find another dealer. ITS DONE!
Overall review:
In closing, I have pumped 17 gallons of fuel in to my Tdi Sportwagon. The manual states it capacity at 14.5 gallons. Which means I have driven over 800 miles on one tank of highway driving. This car gets even better as fuel prices increase. At 50 miles per gallon you want have to complain about high fuel prices.

Pros:
This vehicle is awesome! I rented this car for a trip to Wisconsin and Minnesota and barely had to fill it up for over a 1,000 mile trip. It was comfortable and a smooth ride. It has a big trunk and plenty of passenger room in the backseat.
Cons:
Nothing!
Overall review:
This a great great with good mileage.
