German brilliance on wheels by 46 yr old "girl" from Indianapolis, IN on 10/03/2002. Trim: 1989 BMW 525i, Owned 2 years.

Pros: Timeless style, solid handling, durable construction--engineered to be repaired NOT replaced (German practicality) making it easy for DIY (and I'm a "girl"!). Parts easily accessible on internet ("thepartsbin.com" is great) & parts better priced than domestic! (Never buy parts locally or from dlrship if avoidable!) Very concise repair manuals available. Love this car even @ 172,000 miles.
Cons: Low profile makes it difficult to get high enough to work under--same plus that gives good road hug. That people assume its expensive to own because they don't know how to use resources available to them. Only real down side...both BMW & Mercedes couldn't get the turn signal "snap back" right from this time period. Darn thing needs a hard turn to turn off!
Overall review: Have owned this vehicle over two years. Not my first experience. If you enjoy being well informed about your vehicle & it's mechanics--whether you like to tinker or let someone else, it is a great vehicle. It offers current technology pluses without the newest technology's overkill. It preforms in tight spaces and MOVES when you need it to. Plenty of room. Good small family car--safe and great trunk room; good singles car--looks & sounds great (mine has the sports exhaust pkg! love that roaring purrr!)

Makes you dirve, drive and drive, for no other reason but to drive. by Sek on 01/29/2010. Trim: 1989 BMW 525i, Owned 3 years.

Pros: timeless design, very easy to maintain and fix. lasts forever with good maintenance. good braking and handling. lots of luxuries both for the age and even for today. very interestingly every single thing in the car still works as it should at 260K and after 20 years of service. lot of fun at high speeds, pulls unbelievably stronger on highway compared to how it drives in the city. parts are cheap. gets 25mpg on highway. RWD. will make you love working on cars, and admire the engineering that could be put in a car. many times it feels like being in an fighter airplane. looks beautiful in the mirror.
Cons: it feels slow off the line but it had 200K miles when I purchased, how could I compare with a brand new engine? I love the the front suspension system but when it fails it fails bad. noisy engine, both injectors, valves and radiator fan, fan sounds like an airplane. Why people treat you different on the road when you drive a BMW?
Overall review: I plan to drive this car until the body falls apart. And, get another one once it happens. I would definitely buy a 2010 "e34" if there was one. aggressive look, sporty but comfy feel, safe drive.

bmw 525i 1989 The best car made by lisa baltimore, MD on 06/29/2008. Trim: 1989 BMW 525i, Owned 1 year.

Pros: This car is a classic the body has not changed much compared to newer vehicles. The feature this year included was very futuristic it contained heated seats and whatever else you could imagine. no one can even tell the year and it is almost 20 years old.
Cons: parts are expensive and the mechanic has to be bmw swavvy
Overall review: wonderful vehicle even great for the teens too and they would like driving it

My Mr. Beamer by CJ on 06/23/2008. Trim: 1989 BMW 525i, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros: Everything is great about this car. I have mine painted silver and black from previous owner...and people love this car. When I tell them its an 89 they dont believe it but the headlights kind of convince them. It drives great. And the exterior is wonderful. I cant believe this car is 19 years old and still run better than my 2003 cavalier
Cons: I wish the motor was bigger. The car is really to heavy to have a 2.5 cyl. I am a big fan of headlights and these look older.
Overall review: Wonderful car and even with things I need to fix to make it better I dont mind spending the money and time bc its a beautiful running classic car that deserves the best maintenence...Promise
