The new transmission software mod allows smooth shifts.
Great all around city car and no slouch on the freeway.
Cons:
small gas tank, 8 gal.
Overall review:
As advertised great commuter vehicle.

Love my Smart
by Jan on 07/13/2011.
Trim: 2011 Smart fortwo pure coupe, Owned less than 1 year.
2
Pros:
Fun little car that keeps up with traffic on the interstate yet sneaks into the smallest parking spot in the city. Room in the rear for cargo (great place for the dog to ride), passenger seat comes down when hauling larger objects. Exterior panels are durable and easy to clean. When my cat attempted to jump onto the "hood," which of course was not there, and slid down the front with claws fully extended, I searched for claw damage. There were no scratches at all!
Cons:
Automatic-shifting manual transmission takes some getting used to. If you mentally shift with car as if it was a true manual, you have no trouble. If I am in city traffic where I might need to zip into traffic with no unexpected delays, I sometimes switch it to manual mode so I have more control.
Overall review:
It is great car for a single driver or couple who want a fun car that gets great gas mileage and lots of turned heads. I haven't had so much fun since I owned a 1973 Volkswagon Bug.

Smart choice in an inexpensive car.
by Mike in California on 05/22/2011.
Trim: 2011 Smart fortwo passion cabriolet, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros:
Size, fuel economy, advanced engineering, wow factor
Cons:
No armrest in center, cruise control must be added as an aftermarket item.
Overall review:
Terrific little cars. Extremely reliable, inexpensive, cutting edge styling, great gas mileage, fun to drive, great materials and quality for a car of it's cost. This is not the car for a family. It is a vehicle for adults without children, period. That said, for empty nesters and singles, it is a great choice. It is well worth the extra money to purchase the convertible, they are awesome. By the way, there is a huge amount of after market accessories for customizing and personalizing the smart. SmartMadness in California, and others carry custom wheels, suspensions, performance parts, body panels (They basically snap on and off and dont need painting), interior trims, and electronic addons such as cruise controls, visual monitoring displays, GPSes, powerful stereo systems, They have Smart racing classes in Europe now and it is a fast growing segment. You can hardly go wrong buying one of these cars.
