Pros: its small, has a good turning radius. when it wants to drive nice it will...
Cons: i had transmition problems, dont know if it was the original one or not. but i had to go back quite a few times to get it fixed. and it still acts up.
Overall review: its an ok first time car.

I liked it the first 2 years by Soon to be former Hyundai Owner- Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on 02/25/2008. Trim: 1998 Hyundai Elantra GLS, Owned 7 years.
Pros: The cheapness of gas is about the only thing I like at this point. And insurance is cheap.
Cons: Where can I start? The first 3 years were pretty good except 2 malfunctioning speed sensors (covered by warranty though). Then I went through 2 alternators in 2 years, , and the big one, rebuilding the transmission in July 07 (which cost me 2500.00) Only a half year later I now have coolant in my oil and a very rumbley car. And my manual front windows don't crank up and down properly. For an economy type of car, you sure end up spending a lot of money fixing it. Parts aren't cheap and it seems to take a mechanic more time to fix any problems.
Overall review: Don't buy one!! They appear to be good for only a few years. I hear anything over the year 2000 is a lot better, but i'm not hedging my bets. i went out today after spending over 3000.00 in the past 8 months on repairs on this vehicle and bought a 2004 Nissan Sentra.

the best car i've ever owned. by k-bro of the festus 113 on 09/06/2007. Trim: 1998 Hyundai Elantra Base, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: i bought this car from a buddy about a month ago, for 600 dollars. the car is in great condition he just didnt need it. i have a heavy foot. and with a cat back exaust and a five speed this car staight up moves. i was extremely suprised with it. i love this car. and if anyone needs a good car with good looks and good performance, buy an elantra. you wont regret it...
Cons: the only thing i dislike about this car is the seats. they are comfortable but when you drive 600 miles a week, they aren't that great.
Overall review: a great car... i completely blew away a dodge avenger with a v-6 in a race. and so great on gas!

Not Great by TampaTrini on 08/17/2007. Trim: 1998 Hyundai Elantra GLS, Owned 1 year.
Pros: OK car for short trips around town, good handling, nice body style, pretty good on gas
Cons: Cheap materials, cloth separating from inside of the door, plastic door handle broken, airbag and check engine lights always on(bad sensors),power windows and locks malfunctioning, extremely poor acceleration esp. on highway ramps(I pretty much have to floor it),seats uncomfortable on long rides, lots of wind noise. The metal of the body feels thin and hollow...if you rap on the trunk, it sounds as if you're hitting a tin can because it's so thin and flimsy..doesn't seem too safe to me(wouldn't tote kids in it).Something is always going wrong...fix one thing and something else breaks.Lots of little aggravations...the old saying is still true: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
Overall review: Not the worst vehicle in the world, but I would pass on this one unless you only need it for light in-town use. Would highly recommend the '98 Toyota Corolla instead.
