The real M3 by Tarek in berkeley, CA on 08/04/2005. Trim: 1988 BMW M3 Coupe, Owned 5 years.
Pros: The E30 M3 was the most successful touring car in history. Its fast, loud and it makes the daily drive feel like a daily trip to the race track. This is car performs beautifully at higher speeds and RPMs.
Cons: Maintenance and parts you have to find someone who knows how to work on this car. Most BMW dealers do not have the right technicians that can handle it. This was a 1980's Formula 1 hand built engine and if anything happens to it... you're gonna pay. Sound, the 4-banger is just loud with a stock exhaust, it will wake your neighbors or give you a migraine after an hour of driving. This car is not for everyone.
Overall review: This is a magnificent car to drive you can not go wrong with it, just make sure you have another in case it breaks down.

A True Classic by Jay on 08/01/2004. Trim: 1988 BMW M3 Coupe, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: Handling and ability to attract attention. I fell in love with this car the day I saw it. I have owned one for 10 years now and I will never give it up. I don't drive it much, but when I do, I feel like I am a little kid who just got a go-kart for his birthday.
Cons: Expensive to maintain -- lots of people add fake wings and body kits and badges to make their 325 look like an M3, I hate that.
Overall review: If you are looking for a true classic BMW, the E30 M3 is one of maybe 10 BMW models that will always be on the wish lists of BMW fans for decades to come. A true race-car-for-the-street classic.

M3 E30 - the ultimated driving machine by smthnls on 02/28/2004. Trim: 1988 BMW M3 Coupe, Owned more than 10 years.
Pros: This is the only true M3 race car. Imitated by automakers, street racers and the supposedly fast and furious. Will still smoke anything on a treacherous winding mountain road.
Cons: Not for the weak-hearted. Novices please stay away for your own sake...play with your hondas, acuras, subarus, mazdas and toyotas for a decade and then re-apply. To the affluent wannabes--stick to the new, anesthetized M3's...you'll be happier and everyone will be safer.
Overall review: A great race car for those who are capable of appreciating it.

BMW's first M3 by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/29/2004. Trim: 1988 BMW M3 Coupe, Owned 1 year.
Pros: It's made to drive not fast as a drag racer but with skill. It's raw and unrefined but gives you more feedback about the situation of your car and the road than any other car I have ever driven. It's the closest thing to a race car your going to find for under 40k even if it is 14 years old.
Cons: Not too many people actually know how to work on these cars anymore, even the dealer. But there is a large support group on-line. The parts can be very pricey and hard to get even for a BMW (ie. the spark plug tool). If your looking for a luxury car look to one of the newer M-series this is a race car.
Overall review: Even dated as it is the E30 M3 still does what it was designed to do deliver race car performance. When you find these cars thier in great shape or about to fall apart from being driven hard, no middle ground. So buying one will eather cost you alot with almost no work needed or cost you little with alot of work needed. It can not compare to the newer M3s for power or comfort but it wasnt made to it's made to be the top of the line 80's race car.
