Be Aware Before Purchasing

Pros:
The looks and size ar exellent. Towing capability is adequate. Comfortable drivers seat. Good expandable cargo space. Driver 380 vision is good.
Cons:
Vehicle lurches when re-excellerating after coasting or slowing causing a dangerous situation, especially in traffic (neighbor's 2008 Explorer has same problem). Poor gas mileage. Transmission shifts hard. Seat material holds onto debris-difficult to clean. Running boards and roof rack have faded to grey. Interior materials do not hold up to normal use. Dash instruments hard to see in day light. Ford Customer Service is not customer friendly in resolving problems. Stock answer, "that is just the nature of the vehicle." Their overall attitude is that customer is ignorant so they will say anything to make you go away concerned there might be a law suit or a resulting recall of vehicles.
Overall review:
Except for the mechanical problems and the lack of concern on the part of Ford Dealers and Corporate in trying to rectify the surging safety problem, the vehicle would be enjoyable to own.

Good buy overall

Pros:
really nice seat comfort, climate system, sync
Cons:
3rd row seats are tight, but that was expected. Washer fluid hose broke already. Heat temperature seems unajustable

The Best Looking All Around SUV

Pros:
The styling of the Explorer (prior to 2011) is 2nd to none. It always caught my eye out on the road. Handling is very responsive. Being able to set the seat and pedals for each driver is a plus. Loading items in the back cargo area is a breeze. Second row seating is almost as comfortable as the front. Large windows make long rides very pleasant and very helpful to see all traffic around the vehicle.
Cons:
The a/c system leaves a little to be desired. The setting does not stay when the vehicle is turned off and the default setting of taking outside air is a bit annoying. No mute button for the radio would be a nice addition as would an outside air temp reading under the direction indicator in the message center. A way to open the back hatch from inside the vehicle should be standard.
Overall review:
Having driven a loaded 2001 Impala for 10 years was a real pleasure but the desire to own an Explorer finally won out (especially when the newly designed Explorer was much less eye appealing to me). It feels really good sitting just a little bit higher which makes for easier anticipation of traffic problems as well as parking. I can't wait to take it for a long road trip. My Labrador Retriever took a little getting used to jumping in the back (instead of sitting on the car back seat) but he has adjusted to the new view. The versatility of work, play and evenings out make this a truly all around SUV. I hope to have it for many years to come.

Pros:
Nice clean look... turning radius is awesome... my wife has a chevy equinox and the turning radius is not good in that car at all... i was use to the feel of a 2008 camry and when i bought the explorer i was very impressed.
Cons:
i wish the acceleration had more kick early at the punch and i should have upgraded the sound system... reception and quality isn't as good as my camry.
Overall review:
i'm loving it... almost been a month and i'm pleased.
