Great compact car for the money. by rickman44 from Toledo on 06/17/2011. Trim: 2009 Kia Rio Base, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Gas mileage, styling.
Cons: no cons
Overall review: This is great little car. gas mileage ranges from 30-40 mpg. Stores more in trunk and backseat than it appears. The stick shift is fun to drive but am getting tired of it so i traded this car in after 2 yrs and bought a 2010 Kia Rio with auto, air cond and power steering. I don't think the automatic gets as good as gas mileage as the stick. The 2009 Kia Rio has been a good all around car for me. I have no complaints. I bought it new. Very satisfied.

Could have done better. by sandy from NY. on 11/27/2010. Trim: 2009 Kia Rio LX, Owned 1 year.
Cons: Unable to get service in a timely manner. Parts not in stock or not readily available. Starter burned out twice. Still in warranty but does not mean anything without parts even if it is covered financially.
Overall review: Should have got something else. (other then a Korean car.)

Good economical car if it works right. Kia dealer service is not good. by Jim from Petawawa on 05/21/2009. Trim: 2009 Kia Rio LX, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Gas mileage was good at the start. Radio is excellent. Seat heaters are a nice touch. Handles nimbly.
Cons: Rough suspension. Seats are hard. Does not come with Factory Cruise Control. Engine burns oil.
Overall review: Bought car for financial and operational cost reasons. It's rated 47 mpg. First weekend out, it got 44 mpg on a 500 mile trip. Check engine light came on at 2,500 miles. Kia dealer said it was the non-factory installed cruise control (which they installed). Cruise was disconnected and issue appeared solved. Mileage had dropped to 36 mpg by this time. At 3,750 miles, I checked the oil level and it was marking half on the stick. I drove 1,000 miles that weekend. When I got home the engine was making a lot of noise. There was no oil on the dipstick. Tailpipe was covered (inside & out) with carbon (evidence of an engine burning oil). Took the car to my Kia dealership. Their solution: drive 25 miles to us once a week for us to check your oil for you(they said this was the official Kia procedure that had to be followed). They didn't even look at the tailpipe. So far the situation has not been resolved. This is the second Kia Dealer I've visited where I got disgusting service.
