Mazda RX-8 R3 by Robin, Fort Leonard wood Mo. on 07/21/2011. Trim: 2009 Mazda RX-8 R3, Owned 2 years.
Pros: The handling is better than anything i have ever owned! Not the fastest by far; but the most well rounded..no question!
Cons: The gas mileage is bad..really bad and no nav offered on R3 modle
Overall review: I love this car, I bought it new and it is not my daily driver. I currently have 13000 miles on it and have had ZERO problems. It reves like a motorcycle, handles like a dream and is more fun to drive than my LT1 corvette.

A wonderful, class, and uniqe sports car! by A mature car enthusiast on 10/08/2009. Trim: 2009 Mazda RX-8 R3, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Super smooth engine, wonderful gear box and clutch, light weight, brilliant handling, easy to drive and control, stable at any speed, drive and feel great as sports car spiriit supposed to be, not too fast but enough for me. A pure sports car!
Cons: Nothing for a sport car!
Overall review: This car is pure sports car. Handling is EXCELLENT! very agile. It darts, flies, slices through, and moves in traffic like a fast snake. Right when you get in the car you know right away this is a serious sports car. Turn on the ignition, wow, sweet sound from the engine but until you bring it to the open highway and down shift it, the engine sounds great like a jet engine--way different from the regular pistons ones(who cares about the 300 watt stereo-the engine sounds much better and more pleasure.) No matter what rpm you are at the engine is so linear and incridible smooth. I used to have the S2000 and in term of the engine smoothness it's not even close to this R3. The R3's gear box is great and the clutch is soft and easy to play with (but i think the S2000's gear box is better.) The ride is supprisingly comfortable for sports car. In general, i like this car. It's not too fast but fast enough for a sports car and the most important thing is i FEEL GOOD when i drive it.

Disappointing by Colin (Australia) on 07/03/2009. Trim: 2009 Mazda RX-8 R3, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Looks great, sadly lost marks due to paint bubbling/discoloring [needed respray].
Cons: Engine flooding in trips less than 15 minutes - no good for appartment bay swaps. Performance is "just ok", has lost the magic from its older bro [rx7].
Overall review: Would not buy another. Traded the last after a rotor drop and being told by Mazda Australia that "Customer goodwill will not be forthcoming" - legal speak for "you have been shafted" (forth mazda and last).

Best Value for the Buck. by Gio on 04/15/2009. Trim: 2009 Mazda RX-8 Grand Touring, Owned 1 year.
Pros: All gages and buttons are easy to sea and reach.
Cons: Gas mileage could be better, but it is a sports car in every way.
Overall review: Fun, Fast, For more than two, truly a sports car that can fit four people.

Awesome car, but the old ones are a better value by Rob - NJ on 06/19/2008. Trim: 2009 Mazda RX-8 Grand Touring, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Excellent Handling, Braking, Steering feel, Pedal feel, Fun Rotary Engine, Nice Transmission, Updated final drive ratio, somewhat rare
Cons: Updated styling, questionable reliability,
Overall review: I have an '05 RX-8 and test drove the new one. I like the updated final drive ratio, it makes the car more fun to drive and harder to stall. Don't buy an automatic. Period. The rotary engine requires a caring owner. You MUST check the oil frequently, not over-rev when it's cold, not shut it off cold, etc. Handling is insane, it flies around corners faster than you'll feel safe going. Make sure you get a spare set of wheels for winter tires. All in all, stick to an 05-08 model before getting an '09, as there's a huge premium and not much difference. The R3 may be an exception, but only if you race/do autocross.
