overall great car by Kevin on 11/25/2010. Trim: 2009 Toyota Matrix S AWD 4-Spd AT, Owned 1 year.
Pros: awd feature is great.
Cons: If you buy one , do not get the light gray cloth interior as the material has a manufacters defect. if you just dab water on it it leaves a stain, just from H2O.
Overall review: Good

Great AWD car by Tom in Upstate NY on 06/05/2009. Trim: 2009 Toyota Matrix S AWD 4-Spd AT, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Driver seating is comfortable, decent power from the 2.4 engine.AWD is excellent.Holds a surprising amount of cargo with the rear seats folded down.8ft boards will fit inside when the front right seat is folded down.Right front and rear seats fold flat.AWD version has heated outside rearview mirrors, rear wiper with washer.XM sat. radio is excellent.Good looks with the sport package option.Excellent brakes, good steering, good ride for this class of car.No problems with car in the 5 months I've owned it.115 volt power converter built in.Ease of maintainence for backyard mechanic.
Cons: Automatic headlights dont have a delay feature.AWD version needs a fifth gear for better mileage, needs a larger fuel tank for better range.Heater/AC Dash controls seem a bit cheezy.Feels a little top heavy when pushed fast in corners .I dont care much for the seat fabric, seems to have alot of nylon in it.
Overall review: Decent all around good looking car with surprising amount of cargo room.I have averaged about 26.5 mpg with 29.1 mpg on a longer trip.I bought car for the all wheel drive and its performs very well in adverse weather.Very dependable.

Can't See Squat by Washington State on 04/28/2014. Trim: 2009 Toyota Matrix S 5-Spd MT, Owned 6 years.
Pros: It goes forever and ever! My 2009 has 170,000 miles and I have virtually had no problems:)
Cons: The visibility in this car is awful. There will be a car kiddy corner to my left and I WILL NOT SEE IT!! the side mirrors and wide door jam block all view. looking over my shoulder - no view - either shoulder. the fact that I have not run anyone down in a parking lot is incredible. that i have not crashed into a car that i literally can not see unbelievable! i do not let my teenage driver drive this car. the lack of being able to see makes it very unsafe. she drive the 4 Runner instead.
Overall review: the fact that it is Toyota gives it a great reputation. as far as performance or any issues with the car itself there have been problems. it's the visibility. i will never buy another matrix because of this reason. my research has shown that some of the other Toyota cars (and Sion) have the same problem. we will buy another Toyota truck (4runner or pickup) again. they out perform!

Average at best. by Josh M. on 03/26/2013. Trim: 2009 Toyota Matrix Base 4-Spd AT, Owned 5 years.
Pros: It's a Toyota, so the engine will last for a long time. 4-spd trans is dated but smooth.
Cons: The 2009 matrix is a very cheap, low quality car. From day one there have been loose interior trim pieces and large panel gaps. The interior is on par with American compacts of the 1990s. Everything inside is cheap plastic. Passenger side door rattles because of loose and broken clips inside the door. Really not good at all.
Overall review: Cheap, basic transportation, and that's about it.
