X3 - perfect blend of beauty and muscle

Pros:
I just bought an X3 with optional Sport Package and 19in wheels as a gift for my wife, as a small token of appreciation for her staying by my side for all these years (37). X3 rides as if it was on rails even during sharp avoidance manoeuvers. That's what constitutes a true safety, one being of passive type (seatbelts, air bags, energy absorbing crumple zones etc.), but even more importantly the other being active safety (power to weight ratio, available torque at low RPMs, steering precision, body roll, braking distance). In all these areas BMW is consistently ahead of the pack. X3 is truly an all-around vehicle for any driving need or conditions. Instantly recognizable, indisputably #1.
Cons:
We have owned the vehicle only for few days and so far have not found any deficiencies or areas of concern. On the contrary we enjoy it more with every passing day. Those who have various complaints mainly about stiffer ride presumably acted in free will when purchasing X3, and at least should realize that the "Sports" in "Sports Activity Vehicle" means the emphasis is on the performance and safety rather than quiet, mushy ride with unpredictable handling and increased rollover risk.
Overall review:
Buy one if you can afford one, there is still time left. BMW is offerring 0.9%!!! 5-year financing until July 31, 2008. That's what I did (I also got 528i for myself at incredible 0.9% for 5 years). With optional Premium and Sport packages X3 handles almost like a sports car, yet it's luxurious and comfortable. The standard panoramic roof when opened makes you feel like you are in a convertible. The emphasis on performance and active safety makes it a perfect family vehicle. Let's not forget that building any product requires countless compromises. BMW once again plainly demonstrates it has an acute understanding of all the competing requirements by creating a perfect blend in form of X3 model, truly a vehicle for every age, gender and driving situation.

When BMW says sporty they mean it.
by Indy Dan on 07/08/2008.

Useful?
Pros:
This is a sporty vehicle, quick and nimble is a good description. The seats are very comfortable for all types of trips, and the automatic transmission has delivered good mileage (currently averaging 22.5MPG, with up to 25MPG on trips at 70MPH). It is quiet, and I've had zero quality issues. Fit and finish is A+.
Cons:
I went from a soft ride to this sporty suspension, and it was a bit of an adjustment. You FEEL the road. I enjoy it, my wife not so much. An odd thing to get used to...the computer recognizes that you've lifted your foot from the accelerator and helps you slow by applying the brakes. Personally, I like controlling the brakes myself and find this feature a bit annoying. I do think that BMW should make Leather the standard interior on this model.
Overall review:
I really enjoy driving the X3, and that's really what (I think) BMW is all about.

Versatile, Delightful Vehicle
by S Halonen on 06/02/2008.
Trim: 2008 BMW X3 3.0si Sports Activity Vehicle, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Requiring a vehicle able to clear snow drifts when necessary; juxtaposed against the need for fuel efficiency, this vehicle kills two birds with one stone! In addition, there are enough luxury features to make this car more versatile!
Cons:
Having just purchased this vehicle, I have no cons to report other than it would be nice if this vehicle came equipped with a full spare tire as opposed to a doughnut.
Overall review:
For the purpose for which I purchased this vehicle (second vehicle), this vehicle is (so far) delightful.

All that glitters is not gold . . .
by Nick on 04/13/2008.
Trim: 2008 BMW X3 3.0si Sports Activity Vehicle, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Styling, handling, comfort
Cons:
The mileage dropped to an average of around 13 mpg. at about 25,000 miles. The dealer reluctantly ran a diagnosis and I got the factory to come out to check it over. They said it was normal. If this is normal, this car is not worth owning in today's market. The low Quality Rating is based upon the concerns expressed here.
The performance is a shade toward the sluggish side, too, considering how the 3 Series sedans perform.
Overall review:
If you aren't concerned about gas costs and don't mind being blown off by the dealer and the factory reps when they can't diagnose a problem, this is the car for you.
