Make friends with a mechanic as someone else already said by Kahlan, Western Michigan on 01/29/2004. Trim: 1998 GMC Sonoma SLS Ext. Cab Sportside 2WD, Owned 2 years.

Pros: It's a great size. It handles very well when it's working.. 3rd door is great (once again when it works).. I love the CD player..
Cons: GMC is supposed to be reliable for people using it for work.. So far I've had to replace the recliner (a friend who has the exact same truck had to do the same), and now my 3rd door is broken.. Both of these just from being used every day.. I replaced my entire brake system and within 2 months it sounds like they are once again going bad. The tires are horrible. Service engine light comes on at least once a month for no reason.
Overall review: Someone else said it... Great if you know a mechanic.. I actually like this truck, but it is very expensive and time consuming when it constantly needs fixing. It seems odd that two identical trucks had the exact same problems at approximately the same time though.

Got Boost? by Ricky_Raser on 01/24/2004. Trim: 1998 GMC Sonoma SLS Ext. Cab Sportside 2WD, Owned 6 years.

Pros: The optional ZQ8 handling package I ordered is well worth the money, though it rides rough it can out handle most cars on a road course. Throw a supercharger on the 190hp V-6 and you got yourself a VERY affordable fun ride. Its not quite as fast as the Lighting but who has a spare $35000.
Cons: Needs a V-8. Does'nt GM get tired of losing to Ford year after year. Come on guys we need a Lighting slayer.
Overall review: Very affordable platform for the beginner. Great first truck. I have owned this truck for 6 years without any major problems. I also race this truck during the summer so it can take abuse.

NICE LITTLE TRUCK by JJ on 07/09/2003. Trim: 1998 GMC Sonoma SLS Ext. Cab Sportside 2WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros: Nice little truck. Rides better than most mid-sized cars.
Cons: Noisy 4 cylinder. Not for a family.
Overall review: If you are single or married without children its a great vehicle.

basis run a round truck. by herbie on 01/05/2003. Trim: 1998 GMC Sonoma SLS Ext. Cab 2WD, Owned 5 years.
1
Pros: Rides well, better than most cars and will tow anything.
Cons: Many breakdowns, five clutches in 70,000 miles. Fuel pump failed, wipers failed, muffler died at 60k, catalitic converter at 50k, dealer very slow and very expensive.
Overall review: good basic overall truck for work and play, very cheap to run and buy.
