Top Heavy Hazard!!!!!!!!!!!!! by da man on 06/04/2004. Trim: 1998 GMC Savana G1500, Owned 6 years.
Pros: With the hightop version it does offer more space than the regular catgo van. It had awesome towing and its milelage was okay.
Cons: The hightop is both blessing and curse. It offers more headroom, but it increases the top heaviness and gets the van shifting around on curves at anykind of speed. Only months after it was purchased it was wrecked on something that if we had the vehicle i have now( 01 Yukon XL ) would have not existed.
Overall review: Way to top heavy and a hazard to own. Go with a sports utility vehicle!!!!!

Here's my honest 1 year report: by Steve on 11/10/2003. Trim: 1998 GMC Savana G2500, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Great engine, pulls my camper like nothing. I have the extended roof with all the goodies, makes traveling a breeze. Tons of room. I love this ride.
Cons: Minor quality issues, a cracked piece of trim here, a window switch that goes on the fritz, occassional electrical issue. However, I haven't spent a penny on anything but routine maintenance, and it's never left me stranded and always starts. I expect the V8 to last 200K miles without a hick-up.
Overall review: I've owned it for about 1 year now. I have a family of 6 (wife, 4 kids) looked at all options for hauling a camper and decided on the GMC. Was leary considering GM quality issues of yore. However, the GMC van has really won me over. I tell everyone this is a fantastic vehicle, you'll be happy with it.

Comfortable traveling van by idoc from europe on 03/11/2003. Trim: 1998 GMC Savana G1500, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Santa Fe conversion, Lots of room, comfortable captain chair seating, powerful engine, great acceleration for size of vehicle, surprisingly good MPG on autobahn (we drive 8 to 9 hrs going 85 to 95 mph), no significant mechanical problems so far, great rear door 180 degree opening, sound system is great, VCR system OK, but not spectacular.
Cons: rear heat slow to work, blasts cold air for too long before duct heat up and keep air warm to reach rear passengers. Side doors are flimsy, plastic molding on doors flimsy, not all audio features work properly (headphone jack in rear, etc). Surprising lack of front storage space/glove comparment awkward and too small. Mechanically: requires frequent brake pad change, sounds like a rear differential bearing going out due to distinct humming sound at 45-50 mph (towing speed), No engine or suspension problems
Overall review: Great vehicle, very big and sometimes difficult to park in congested areas with small spaces crammed into small parking lots. Lots of room for everyone, captain chairs are amazing, rear seat a bit bouncy, but the kids don't complain. Would be nice to have access to the back from both sides of vehicle. Would prefer sliding door over split side door.
