One sports vehicle to go down in history--a collector! by 6 shooter on 03/06/2013. Trim: 2008 Volkswagen R32 Base.
Pros: The AWD feature in combo with the great engine is a sports car that satisfies the daily driver and enthusiast requirements all in one package. With an owner's selection of good perfornance tires for summer and winter driving, this vehicle is 100% compatible to a driver who operates in the envelope of 8.5 to 9 as to what is demanded from a great overall sports car. The OE brakes are fantastic, and I will be using the same OE parts on replacement. If one is tuned to driving city traffic with diligence and traffic light observation, they will be able to obtain over 21mpg, as this is what I normally obtain in runs of 10 miles round trip.
Cons: Haven't found anything to date in my four years of ownership
Overall review: The handling, performance, braking etc are on a par for the price of the vehicle, and the AWD is a mighty plus when combined with a good selection of tires to match the vehicle. The size is quite acceptable, and its curb weight is not noticed in perfornance driving--all stays together at the time and mode of execution for the enthusiast without becoming "tight cheeked"!

Rocket R32 by Norm on 03/30/2012. Trim: 2008 Volkswagen R32 Base, Owned 3 years.
Pros: THis car rocks, bought it used instead of a SUV, looking at big wheelers and the wife took off with the salesman in red a R32..came back with a grin. Have put 32K on it and still love it. OEM tires lasted to 23K, replaced with the OEM Dunlops, Recall for the Haldex/ ECM taken care of W/O issues by the dealer.Tuned at 39K, still get 22 mpg around town 26/28. NO problems, any issues to date,. Trans issues fixed with recall,a little heavy in the front on hot turns, use the throttle to get it outta the corners.. Seats are great, visability great, side mirrors could be bigger,.Solid firm ride not too much so...Turning radius is great,.I'm pushing for the second car to be a 12 R FOR Me..
Cons: RED did I mention RED ....but that's no reflection on the R32,,,it is a great RED if you gotta have RED but the interior is a nice Grey which balances the RED....Doesn't come with fog lights or running lights nor does the 2008 have LED tailights.... Wheels seem to attract curbs so the wife says they are marked up a bit..........................gee have to look at after market wheels soon.. Exhaust has a valve set up to open at speed which was broken or disconnected when we bought it, and as such was the source of the only rattle the car has had..replaced the exhaust with Magnaflow Touring model.....sounds sweet now and there is no more rattle..
Overall review: Love the car............ would like it better with a manual six speed but the dual clutch trans is a life saver in todays traffic, and one can always pop it into manual mode and run it to the rev limiter and listen to the Magnaflow tunes. Test when you buy is to tap on the front fender the sound of a VW is solid and the quality of construction and materials is really high throughout the car.. tap on a mustang, a new camaro or an STI and you will "feel" the quality or lack thereof.. test drive one

R32 a class in itself by criticaliron on 06/07/2009. Trim: 2008 Volkswagen R32 Base, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Launch control, DSG clutch with S (sport) mode (at first I wanted a manual, but after a year with the DSG, I love it), great grip (AWD) for such a heavy car, wonderfully naturally aspirated V6, fantastic exhaust note (possibly one of the best ever), ergonomics (cup holders galore and air conditioned glove box is cool, literally), and even though it is more fun on the twisties, it is still a joy to cruise on the interstate. Limited edition, so you don't see them a lot and subtle styling keeps attention down from the other boy racers. People always comment on the blue calipers.
Cons: VW dealerships for maintenance (expensive), recalls (two already), accessories (dealership issues are not the car's fault though), gas mileage is so-so (but I knew this coming in), no bluetooth (there is a button for it on the steering wheel, but it does not work in states, be advised, dealer won't tell you this). I wish the remote (and door button) actual "popped" open trunk instead of just unlocking it (causes a lot of wear and tear on rear insignia/trunk release). MP3 jack should be outside of glove box.
Overall review: Stylish car and great bang for the buck (a similar car from any other German manufacturer would cost at least 10K more). Minor complaints, mainly with VW dealerships and not the vehicle itself.

Blast to drive and practical by Fred from New Milford, CT on 01/01/2008. Trim: 2008 Volkswagen R32 Base, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Performance, design, interior, exhaust note
Cons: Few annoying rattles after 5,000 miles (typical for a VW), fuel economy
Overall review: Have the DVD-Navi option which I've grown to like but it's a bit old school. Wonderful car, very good commuter if you don' t mind the fuel economy which is my only gripe. BUT, this car is 4-wheel drive and does encourage hard driving (because it so much fun). With mixed driving in the North East, I'm getting 23mpg, not bad and better than my last car which was a Subaru WRX. Very nice interior accomodation as well. Handles the snow and wet pavement very well if you opt for the all-seasons, the only option on this car. I paid full-pop when it 1st came out, now they are discounting them like crazy. So if you want a european 4-wheel drive, every-day performance auto, there really is nothing else like the R32. The only other thing that comes close in luxury, all-wheel drive practicality and performance is the BMW 3-series which is over $10k more for the all-wheel drive option. Look at it this way, the R32 is not a bad deal.
