Pleasant commuter by Joe from CT on 12/31/2009. Trim: 2008 Audi A3 2.0 T, Owned 2 years.
Pros: very peppy, very good gas mileage, 6 speed transmission works well, no option packages here.
Cons: despite having removed the original Pirelli P6 tires, the automobile transmits road noise quite easily depending on the type of road surfaces. only on newly paved roadways does the car seem quiet. I do 95% highway commuting with this car, so my opinion here may be different than others. Compared to GTI which I also test drove, the A3 was slightly more expensive with less features (in Dec 2007). The texture of the instrument panel is somewhat rough and doesn't wipe clean to remove dust easily.
Overall review: Well built small car with good handling for a front-driver. Pleasing design, inside and out, mainly focusing on style and simplicity. Choose a better tire than the P6 and you're good to go.

The GTI's smarter brother by Snow covered A3 in Syracuse on 02/06/2009. Trim: 2008 Audi A3 2.0 T, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Excellent engine, transmission, suspension (ride), interior and build quality. The engine has just the right amount of power to have fun yet you can still squeeze 30-35MPG out of it! Its a hatch back with great seats that are easy to put down.
Cons: Front leg room is tight. I am 6' and can not find a comfortable place for my right leg when using the cruise control. Heated mirrors are an "option" on a $29K car? My '89 saab had them as standard! The stock Pirelli tires are rubbish!!
Overall review: A wonderful car. Many people comment on it and ask what it is, kind of nice in this day and age when all cars start to look the same and this one sticks out. Hopefully Audi has improved their reliability and I will be comfortable enough to keep this car for a long time. 17,000 miles so far and it is still like new. Bigger than a GTI for close to the same $$ (base, manual FWD)

Clinically Efficient to Drive and Own. Some design Faults. by ML on 01/16/2009. Trim: 2008 Audi A3 2.0 T, Owned 1 year.
Pros: General build quality is close to excellent. Built like a bullet. Quality materials used in most cases. Good indicator stalks. Slick 6 speed manual transmission in the S Line. Great sound system. Looks good in the S Line. Very practical hatchback.
Cons: Hint of turbo lag from standstill. Driving position need to be improved. Accelerator, brake and clutch not well aligned. Clutch and brake too high, accelerator too low. Pedals a little too far to the right. Drivers seat height adjusts only the rear of the seat. Instrument plastic casing for the speedo and tacho needs to slope upwards to minimise the collection of dust, dirt and reflections, rather than slope downwards and accumulates dust and dirt and looks filthy in no time, not to mention sun reflections at certain angles! This is a problem will all Audi instruments. Aluminium interior scratches too easily. Fold down armrest useless as it blocks handbrake and gears when lowered.
Overall review: Good car that clinically efficient to drive and own. Built like a bullet but does lack charisma. But is trouble-free so far. You have to put up with some design problems in the driving position, arm rest and instrument panel though. And its a little over-priced for what it is, especially with options.

Best sports hatch out there! by Brit in Northern Cal on 10/14/2008. Trim: 2008 Audi A3 2.0 T With DSG, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: DSG, acceleration, solid driver, fit and finish, open sky, bluetooth. Pearl Blue paint.
Cons: Premium seats don't offer much bolster support, but they are comfortable. Car sits a little high and hard cornering suffers, I'm going to purchase coilovers and have the car dropped 1 inch or so to compensate this. Rear leg room tight, but this is a commuter car for me, and theres enough room for my kids car seats when I need to take them along.
Overall review: I'm a long time GTI driver and went to purchase a 2008 GTI, couldn't get one with the options I wanted and test drove this A3 with the Premium package which was fully loaded. with Bluetooth (a good send if you drive in a state where handsfree are now a legal requirement), iPod dock, open sky system which is a great option and make this small hatch feel way bigger. The acceleration is amazing, and the gear change is so quick and smooth it never fails to amaze me. The drive is solid and sure footed even high speeds. In addition I got a great deal for this A3 as it was the last of the 2008 A3's on the deal floor so they cut me a really good deal (1k under invoice) so I left with no buys remorse and have enjoyed everyone of the 4000 miles I've but on it. Bottom line is I Love this car.
