Big Bang for your Low initial payment by Dan from California on 01/22/2013. Trim: 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0L 2WD, Owned 5 years.
Useful?
Pros: amazing bang for your buck, much sturdier frame/structure than say a lexus RX. Comfort is top notch, imagine driving your sofa on the FWY. Reliable and Cheap to maintain. V6 is slow even compared to other SUVs but it has plenty of low end torque.
Cons: Liar MPG gauge, yes the gauge would read avg 19 - 20, but if you do the math at the gas station at it's best it would be 14. so the dashbord MPG reading is way way optimistic, MPG is pretty poor, city only with a light foot you'd get about 14, if you use the A/C you're looking at 12-13 MPG. Highway gets appx 20, if you use AC drops down to about 18-19. (real world calculations not the dashboard BS)
Overall review: if you got money to blow on gas, there is for sure no better bang for your buck than this. The V6 is the neanderthal of engines making low power and drinking gas like it's free. I'd buy it again sure, just not in the V6.

08 Limited by An MSN Autos Consumer on 03/08/2011. Trim: 2008 Ford Explorer Limited 4.6L AWD, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: Looks great, good performance, great fit and finish. Ford Sync.
Cons: Not nearly enough interior storage. Plastic "chrome" look wheels on the top-line model, who thought that one up.
Overall review: Great driving experience.

Great SUV by WSB from Atlanta on 12/30/2009. Trim: 2008 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L 2WD, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: The styling is very tasteful and the seats are comfortable. The ride is smooth and it handles well for an SUV it's size. I have averaged 17.8 MPG over a the last year in mixed driving. The Vapor Silver Metallic is a great paint choice; good quality paint, and it looks great, even when the Explorer gets a little dirty.
Cons: The 4.0L V6 is a little underpowered and over-whelmed. The V6 is adequate for everyday driving, but a little extra oomph would be well appreciated. I recommend the 292 Horsepower V8 over the 210 Horsepower V6. Also, there are quite a few hard plastics in the interior, however, the materials have stood up quite well from everyday abuse; the interior materials look brand new after a quick cleaning with Armor All.
Overall review: The Explorer is a great choice for anyone looking for a practical SUV. It handles well and is comfortable for long hauls; (my longest trip was from Atlanta to Kansas and everywhere in between) and the Explorer was extremely comfortable for me, as well as the rest of the family. I have averaged almost 18 MPG over the last year in mixed driving, 2 MPG better than what Ford estimates. The styling is very tasteful and the Explorer looks right at home parked next to more expensive vehicles. The interior is well laid out and ergonomic. SYNC is an exceptional feature and it can actually understand me when I speak a command, something my E550 can't seem to do. Overall, the Explorer is a fantastic SUV that is well mannered on and off the road. The interior could use a little more refinement, but still tasteful nonetheless. The V6 is not as responsive as I would like, but still adequate. I absolutely recommend the Explorer to anyone looking for a practical, good looking, comfortable SUV.

best suv I have owned. by walter on 07/27/2009. Trim: 2008 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L 2WD, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: better than expected gas miliage, went to Dallas and back on one tank of gas.
Cons: When driving into the sun, it is almost impossible to see what speed you are traveling at, the speedometer should be a different color combination.
Overall review: very happy with its performance, and color, when its dirty it still looks clean, it is an excellent vehicle.

Black & Silver LTD by An MSN Autos Consumer on 06/17/2009. Trim: 2008 Ford Explorer Limited 4.6L 4WD, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros: The V8 also gets a 6-speed auto so mpg is the same as V6 with a ton of power and extra gear. Probably best vehicle I have ever owned and certainly the most versatile. Even after test driving several other "classic" SUV's, Explorer was by far the best. In some of the imports, you could see the shift handle jiggling around when you go over a bump. That made them a certain no-go for me. Also, the Explorer was by far the best ride and much quieter than the other three I drove.
Cons: I am a freak, so I have to park very far from other people. Sometimes I offer to drop my girl off at the door of a place in case she does not feel like walking. She always walks though.
Overall review: Overall review? The truck runs strong, smooth and quiet. The front seats are like driving a Lazy-boy.
