Great Family Ride
by Road Mom on 11/23/2009.
Trim: 2008 Ford Taurus X SEL AWD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
Sometime I look at the Taurus X and think I'm driving a station wagon...other times, a minivan, and then an SUV. It's a mix of all of those worlds! The interior is extremely comfortable, roomy, and our leather seats are great quality. I love to drive it, I feel like I have more control than I did in my Expedition. We have 3 kids and have never felt cramped on a long driving vacation, which we do often to visit family. We installed a DVD system and now the package is complete! We get around 19 mpg in town and 24-26 on the road.
Cons:
The comments I get that I drive a station wagon, lol.
Overall review:
Definitely a great buy! Would do it again and plan to have mine for a LONG time.

Function over Form: Ford hits a Triple with Taurus

Pros:
I upgraded from an 02 Rendezvous. The Taurus has better handling, more power, better 3rd row seating & more luggage space. The Buick was a little quieter, had a little more driver room & better fit and finish. I did a lot of research & drove the Outlook (a little clumsy/big to drive), Veracruz (great specs but a little too small), Highlander (can't lose with Toyota but pricy & poor 3rd row), & Pilot (spacious but noisy on highway). Each had pros & cons, but the Ford had the best crossover combo of space & handling, decent mileage, lots of electronics & good value for the money especially w/ employee pricing offer. Fold flat seats in all rows are great. Easy height entry/exit. Solid feel.
Cons:
Floor in front is not flat so leg position is limited. There is no telescopic steering wheel, but pedals are adjustable on some models. Ford inexplicably does not offer roof rack cross rails--Yakima has some but they are pricey. There was exposed caulk on one of the A pillars--inexcusable in final inspection. I would like to see an instantaneous mileage indicator in addition to the ave. mpg. The fit and finish on the leather seats could be better. Wood trim could be more realistic and used more throughout. The "black" dash and trim actually looks like expresso brown in the light. Instruments are blocked at the top when the steering wheel is all the way down. Rear console latch is odd.
Overall review:
Overall the Taurus is a good (if not stylish) alternative to an SUV or minivan. Think of it as an overgrown station wagon--spacious, flexible, decent mpg. While it does not lead the pack in any particular category (except perhaps rear seat & luggage room & that all seats fold flat), it consistently performs above average in almost Every category making its overall score very good for a family vehicle capable of carrying 6 or 7 adults, & it has the most spacious 3rd row seat head & legroom of any vehicle short of a Suburban (which it beats by many mpg). It only tows 2000 lbs, probably because of its many computerized handling features, so if you have a big boat or RV trailer, this is not the vehicle. With a little better exterior styling & a little better interior fit & finish, Ford would have hit a home run with the Taurus X. As it is, I'd give it a double hustled into a triple. If you have a big ego, go somewhere else. If function is your optimum, this is a very good choice.

Pros:
The seats are so comfortable and there is alot of room. My car runs great 3 years later and only route-en maintenance needed.
Cons:
The paint started chipping on the front hood and not sure if it is covered under the warranty. I may have to pay out of pocket for the job to be done.
Overall review:
Good overall car, but I enjoyed the full size Bronco better.
