Ultimate Problem
by JG who loves cars on 07/19/2010.
Trim: 2007 BMW X3 3.0si Sports Activity Vehicle, Owned 3 years.
2
Pros:
Drives like only a BMW can
Cons:
Love the styling and performance but very dissatisfied with BMW solving issues when they occur. Car has failed to start on numerous occasions and response has been well below expectations. Had an issue with a Mercedes years ago and was very impressed with their handling. BMW plays the dealer versus BMW card leaving the owner in limbo. Too bad for them.
Overall review:
Great cars unless you have an issue.... then you are on your own.

Pros:
looks nice.
Cons:
transmission problems had the dealer re-program the transmission and it is better than it was but going slow it still downshifts very hard.
Overall review:
Would not recommend 2007 model, other years may be better just don't know.

The Drivers SUV!
by Fathom from Mo on 10/12/2008.
Trim: 2007 BMW X3 3.0si Sports Activity Vehicle, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
Have leased this vehicle for 25K miles. It is quick and agile with plenty of power even to tow small trailers. BMW warranty covers everything except tires for the length (+12mo) of the lease so NO maintenance costs (our dealer even picks it up at our home and leaves us a loaner). Our only malfunction in our 25K mile experience has been an ABS wheel sensor which was promptly repaired. Small enough to fit into small car parking spaces yet big enough to take on road trips. Good 4X4 for snow and mild off roading. Mixed driving yields low 20's mpg.
Cons:
I have never loved the styling!
Electronics not as "integrated" as larger BMW's. Next model change will include the electronic underpinnings of the larger BMW's which should improve the overal experience.
Ride can be harsh for some (my wife and I like a "tighter" ride as it aids in control).
Not for those people that would rather eat etc. in their cars than drive!
Mixed driving yields low 20's mpg.
Overall review:
I currently drive a '06 650i and '07 X5 but with a second child starting college I have had to reconsider more "finantially responsible" daily transportation. The X3 provides the characteristics most people are looking for in a BMW (ride, acceleration and handling) in a more cost conscious package. It also has plenty of room for road trips with the dogs and ability to pull a trailer when needed.
I traded a Lexus RX330 for this car (early lease termination) as the Lexus was underpowered and took a lot more work to drive. One test drive was all it took for us. My wife initially felt that the "luxury" quotient wasn't there but the car is so much easier to get around in that she thanks me on a regular basis for trading her out.
BMW usually runs lease and or purchase specials on this vehicle which makes this suv a bargain.
I cannot think of any other vehicle on the road that provides the features you want in an SUV at this high a level for this price. We are completely sold out.

A SAV for Sav
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 06/30/2008.
Trim: 2007 BMW X3 3.0si Sports Activity Vehicle, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
It is an suv that drive like a BMW auto. I average 19.6 mpg. It has all options including 19"tires. The only thing missing is the navigation. The Servotronic steering is great to make U-turns and park.
Cons:
The rear ski boot cover broke when loading the back. BMW is replacing free. Bluetooth not always clear.
Overall review:
It is very comfortable on long trips. Mileage good for suv. A must to get is rear airbags, Xenon and parking sensors. With those items you will be happy.

Very Good SUV
by Prowler - Wash DC on 08/24/2010.
Trim: 2007 BMW X3 3.0si Sports Activity Vehicle, Owned 3 years.
Useful?
Pros:
I have the X3 with M Sport Package and it handles very well, very stable on the roads yet quick and nimble. Sound system is very good yet the aux input would have been better in the front row, Panoramic sun roof makes the ride through scenic areas more enjoyable. The tilting lights illuminates turns and inclines very well.
Cons:
The navigation system is way behind Acura or Lexus - its not even touch screen. The M Sport Package makes the ride a little stiff especially on I-66 towards Wash DC, the BMW Headrest LCD's for the back row is also sub par.
Overall review:
Overall, it is a pretty good SUV (SAV for BMW) Its a cross between my Acura MDX and my Audi TT, fits right in the middle.
