Great Toyota engineering by An MSN Autos Consumer on 06/11/2012. Trim: 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS, Owned 4 years.

Pros: The venerable Edmunds Car Review summed it up perfectly, "as good as it gets this side of $40k" . It floats along on a cloud. The suspension is boggy but it's a roomy, super safe land yacht that squeezes amazing milage out of a frighteningly powerful, ultra low emission engine: 22 city 34 hyw. When Toyota makes a flagship vehicle the pride is self evident. Remember the bogus claims that the cars accelerated on their own? We needed to go to NASA engineers to investigate, that's how complex the engineering is on these beauties. And the Toyotas were not accelerating on their own, it was all driver error. Buy this car.
Cons: Paint is a little thin but a lot of wax adds some depth.
Overall review: If you're in the market for a used car, I can sum it up in 3 words. BUY THIS CAR! Thank you.

Impressive automobile by Jim, Thomasville, NC on 08/15/2007. Trim: 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited, Owned less than 1 year.
2
Pros: I am very impressed with the comfort of this automobile. I have owned several different 'high-end' touring cars ... and this one, dollar-for-dollar, is by far the best yet. I enjoy the performance and the excellent gas mileage I have obtained ( average 30.7 miles per gallon). When I have passengers, they are always amazed by the spacious rear seating and impressed with the quality.
Cons: I would move the controls for the power-seat memory from the side of the door to the side of the seat (like the Volvo S70's).
Overall review: Excellent value for the money.

Disappointing first impression. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 07/08/2007. Trim: 2007 Toyota Avalon Limited, Owned less than 1 year.
2
Pros: Quiet, smooth ride. Ample power. Roomy interior, although rear legroom is partly obtained by smaller front legroom. Gas mileage seems to be good (only 1,200 mi on car)
Cons: Build quality details poor. Upholstery and trim poorly fitted and misaligned. Body panel gaps uneven. Transmission has abrupt upshifts when driving gently and surges as it downshifts while stopping. Radio sound is poor and hard to regulate. Controls are not intuitive for simple functions. Computer readouts are limited and not re-settable manually. Poor storage places inside. 12-volt outlets poorly placed. Passenger seat needs more power adjustments. Laser cruise control mode needs 1-mph tap up or down, not 5 mph. Throttle response can be abrupt. Needs rear parking sensors system. Interior color choices are too few. Trunk is too small.
Overall review: Came from Cadillac DeVilles to Avalon, wanting shorter car and high quality with roomier interior than Lexus ES. Can't always tell how a car will be until live with it for a while. Disappointed with build sloppiness and features--or lack of them. This is a nice car but so far I wouldn't give it the gushing accolades that I've read. Car is not as routinely user-friendly as it should be, and I could give Toyota a lot of suggestions for improvements to make the daily driving experience better.

Toyota: Moving Backward by olderage on 03/14/2012. Trim: 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS, Owned 5 years.
1
Pros: Extremely quick and decent fuel economy for such a large car. A nice touring vehicle with a relatively smooth ride. There are obviously few cars on the road that match its interior space, and the back seat is akin to a limousine's. The interior style is quite nice, and better than the exterior that has not aged well.
Cons: Fit and finish and reliability are not good. Constant trouble with little annoyances such as sensor lights, uneven tire wear, warped rotors, etc. I had all regular maintenance performed at premium prices by the Toyota dealership. Last week they said my transmission will go out any day and the car is unsafe to be driven. It has 135k miles and was maintained religiously (all fluid flushes and inspections were performed on time). Quote was $3,500-4,300. The Toyotas of today are simply not what they used to be. No thanks, Kentucky, give me back my Japanese made cars! This experience was way too similar to owning a Pontiac, except at double the price.
Overall review: Poor quality car not made for the long haul. Where is the intelligent buyer to turn? Reliability is my preeminent concern for a vehicle. Nothing will take away the joy of a car faster than having it in the shop or paying enormous bucks on repairs. I didn't buy this car to be excited, I bought it for durability. Do I hear the whisper of a South Korean revolution?

Comfort and Performance by Choir boy in San Jose on 06/28/2011. Trim: 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS, Owned 3 years.
1
Pros: I truly appreciate the engineering that went into integrating engine performance and driver comfort...power, when you want it, great gas mileage (29 on the highway), lots of room, fabulous sound system and terrific visibility.
Cons: I sure wish that a touch screen GPS would have been available...working the "joy stick" is tedious.
Overall review: Highly recommended...it has over 62,000 miles now and the way it looks and performs, there are plenty to go. I traded in my older Mercedes for this and I would do it again...
