Safety Ford by Minnesota Mule Skinner on 03/11/2010. Trim: 2007 Mercury Montego Premier AWD, Owned 3 years.
Pros: Handles well in winter conditions. Large back seat and trunk. No engine or transmission problems. Can unlock with keypad -- useful for the kids. Heated outside mirrors. Memory seat keyed to remote unlock fob. Outside (but not inside!) mirrors adjust with memory seat. Foot pedal cluster also adjusts with memory seat. This model has the CVT, which appears to be more reliable than the alternative transmissions.
Cons: Radio antenna placement makes it difficult to clear frost on passenger side of windshield. Lifted wiper on passenger side collides with antenna when dropped. Seat heaters (1. available in front only; 2. heat only part of my thighs; 3. failed after two years -- warranty repaired). Driver's seat actually smaller than my previous 94 Camry. Steering is a bit heavy. Unusually, rear brakes wear faster than front -- had one repair under warranty.
Overall review: Most of my cons are annoyances. This is a large car with attendant safety benefits, but also fuel consumption. (City use winter, maybe 15mpg; Highway use summer, maybe 29mpg). It is very well behaved on snow and ice (AWD + traction control) and has managed to stay on the road through multi-state blizzard trips. Of three vehicles, this is the only one I allow my 16 year old daughter to drive -- if there's going to be a crash I want her to have all the benefits and protections possible!

Pleased by Cindy on 11/18/2008. Trim: 2007 Mercury Montego Premier AWD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: I choose to lease this car with the option to purchase post lease two years ago. For the most part I will say that I like the car very much. It is roomy enoungh for four to five growing teenage boys.
Cons: Acceleration, really need to push on the gas pedal to go up hills. Engine noise is very annyoying. Cost of replacing tires. If only high performance tires can be used on this car, this will cut into a huge expsene over the lifetime of the ownership of the car. The dealer want to charge 194.00/tire with a 19.95/tire installation fee.
Overall review: I like this car very much, and I like the name MONTEGO much better than SABLE

Switched from Lincoln by Jim on 11/30/2007. Trim: 2007 Mercury Montego Premier AWD, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Comfortable clean car to drive. Rides well. Could use a few more horsepower, but the CVT transmission moves the car along pretty well. Car is loaded. Sound system is excellent, interior very nice. The all wheel drive will handle the NH winter.
Cons: Nothing yet
Overall review: I came from a lincoln LS to this car. I think I enjoy this car far better than the Lincoln. roomier, good ride, and uses regular fuel.

Mercury Montego: Pros and Cons (Mostly Cons) by jbear on 06/17/2007. Trim: 2007 Mercury Montego Premier, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Comfortable, good appearance, roomy trunk, 5-star saftey rating
Cons: Lots of little things going wrong, lots of unexplainable noises, gas mileage way lower than claimed, problems with strut bearings, problems with fuel rail sensor, cheap tires, roof moldings not held on good, 18 inch rims make it hitting a pothole ruin the tires, tires are not widely available, noisy front end, fuel vapor canister wouldn't fill, rough riding, lot of time in dealership shop
Overall review: The Montego is a good looking car with comfortable seating and a spacious trunk. It is good on trips. However, we have spent more time in the service garage with this car than with our last three cars combined. All of the repairs have been a huge inconvience. I want to love this car but it has been a major disappointment. I traded off the Mountaineer for the Montego to get bette fuel mileage and was disappointed in a big way.
