Mechanical nightmare!!!
by jeff Tamaqua Pennsylvania on 04/15/2009.
Trim: 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited 4.6L 4WD, Owned 2 years.
Useful?
Pros:
Great styling and comfort. Very quiet and smooth ride. The 8 cylinder averages only 1 mpg less than the 6 cylinder but has much more power.
Cons:
Mechanical nightmare!!!
Overall review:
I have this truck less than 2 years and have had nothing but problem after problem. It is a mechanical nightmare. Ford does not even have a fix for the transmission problems. There is not room here to list even 25% of the problems that I have had. Don’t be fooled by the great looks. Don’t buy this truck unless you like walking, and writing checks to the service center.

Ultimate Truck/SUV.
by Slick - Durango, CO on 04/14/2009.
Trim: 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited 4.0L 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
I have driven 7k miles on a used (22k) ST. 23.5 MPG at 75 MPH 1.2k trip. I have the NAV system
and it has preformed even in uncharted areas the needle points towards your destination. The Trip computer is close usually within 1 MPG. Power leather seats are comfortable(power lumbar). The six disc changer has a pause & hold down rewind function. Really enjoy the power rear window and lockable truck bed. Independant suspension works well in Colorado mountain driving.
Cons:
No option for 6 spd tranny or differential ratios. Power seat for passenger needed. Paddle shifter or gate, standard ability for NAV with 6 disc and Sat radio to have a MP3 plug. MPG suffers under
cruise control the CPU downshifts 2 gears and gives no credit to the engine's torque. 18 MPG on highway with cruise engaged 23.5 MPG using my foot. 18" wheels are great but limiting on tires due to rim width. Off road skid plate option would be nice.
Overall review:
I have every option but 2 and I am impressed. This is my first Ford in 34 years of driving and I
would recommend this vehicle. I can get out of this vehicle after 500 miles and walk without
back pain.
