It could & should be so much better ! by Jeff Davis - Columbus, Ohio on 10/10/2012. Trim: 2006 BMW X5 3.0i, Owned 6 years.
Pros: Classic & timeless styling with a beautiful interior. Comfortable seating with all the right amenities. Quality is apparent in the interior and has the feel of a car that has been well engineered and manufactured. When working properly the steering is tight and responsive and the ride smooth and solid.
Cons: Mechanical and reliability disaster. My X5 3.0i has been maintained in complete accordance with recommended service manual from day one. I am now at 87,000 miles & literally spending thousands of dollars for non- maintenance repairs. Leaking power steering line, tension bushings, CV boots and axles, engine thermostat, 02 sensors, outside power mirrors that have stopped working, etc. No car is perfect and I fully expected at time of purchase that maintenance and repair costs would be above average. However these repairs are quite simply quality issues and completely unacceptable. BMW's customer service department response was nothing short of appalling. Do not subject yourself to BMW.
Overall review: Unless you plan on a short term lease and/or trading in before warranty expires, you will be shocked at the cost of ownership. These are not unique claims made by me but rather the norm for BMW's. Be wise and ask other owners for validation. The real tragedy is that they are beautiful cars with such potential to be something legendary. What is more disturbing is that BMW is well aware of these failures and has done absolutely nothing to assist or participate in repair costs or correct. In fact it almost has the feel of being good for their business to be in their repair facilities so often. Overpriced labor and parts are what you can and should expect. Maintenance schedules are designed to keep a car in good condition and in proper running order for an extended period of time. Not with BMW. This car's reliability and cost of ownership remind me of a GM product I had in the late 70's ... BMW you should be ashamed.

Fits Wonderfully in the Dealer's Repair Stall by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/05/2010. Trim: 2006 BMW X5 3.0i, Owned 4 years.
Pros: The car is peppy and nicely designed. The moon roof is impressive.
Cons: POC (aka "Piece of Crap"). I purchased it new and it has been in the shop 8-10 times for electrical problems. The dealer(s) have been unable to find a solution. I only have 49K miles on it. This is the last BMW that I will own.
Overall review: If you like to talk to the BMW repair persons, this car is for you.

Great first BMW by Sirbob1001 on 12/26/2008. Trim: 2006 BMW X5 3.0i, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: The overall styling and features are well done. Great ride and fun to drive. Great moon roof. Interior lighting is a nice touch. Rear climate contol, rear heated seats, and rear reclining seats are greatly appreciated. Lots of room for an SAV this small. Sport Package seats are great.
Cons: If you have the nav system, there is no single cd player and the 6 disc changer is all the way in the back. Stereo could be better for a vehicle of this stature and price considering all the premium packages this vehicle has, even Chevy offers Bose.
Overall review: Would definitly recommend this vehicle.

Love my X5 by Andre on 12/06/2007. Trim: 2006 BMW X5 4.4i, Owned 1 year.
Pros: I love driving the X%.. It is solid as a rock... No noises from anywhere! The engine is very responsive and smoothe.. I love the rumble on acceleration! It is very very comfortable especially with 4 heated seats. The sound sustem is no premium but sunds awesome!
Cons: I have the running boards... and you can not get out of this vehicle without getting your pants dirty.
Overall review: If some one wants an suv. I DO NOT THINK THEY WILL WANT TO TAKE IT OFF ROAD. This is a driving machine meant for raods, not the bush! I just look forward to driving this X5 at any time. No complaints at all. It is not as modern as some of the newer SUVs, but I think that is what is so appealing about it! A muscle machine!
