very dependable by arctic driver on 04/28/2011. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix XR 4WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros: In 5 years of owning this vehicle I have never had one problem with it. It's good on gas and fairly roomy for a smaller car, comfortable even on long drives.
Cons: It's not a big thing but of course with a small 1.8 litre engine if you have 4 people and luggage loaded you can tell the engine is really working to keep up on hills, etc. But just for everyoday driving it is more than ample powerwise.
Overall review: We really like this car and have told ourselves many times what a good buy it was.

Great at everything by An MSN Autos Consumer on 10/28/2005. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix 2WD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: This car is a great at most everything. Gas mileage, comfort, quality, and even performance. The tie down system in back is really clever too.
Cons: Long shift throws on base model, a little overdone on the plastic on the inside, especially in back.
Overall review: This is a great car for the money and gets great gas mileage!

2006 Matrix XR by Daryl on 02/02/2013. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix XR 2WD, Owned 7 years.
Useful?
Pros: Extremely reliable and efficient. Better economy than advertised. Versatile hatch/seat configurtion enables large carrying capacity.
Cons: Performance is not great but expected for this type of vehicle.
Overall review: A perfect communter car. Extremely trouble-free and inexpensive to operate. Very roomy for a small car. High seats improve the comfort. Can carry 8ft long objects such as lumber with the hatch closed and passenger seat folded. I have consistantly measured 37-39 mpg over 167,000 miles. Not a race car but a humble car that keeps going and going.

Well Worth it! by Xocolatl%20-%20Los%20Angeles on 10/25/2012. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix 2WD, Owned 4 years.
Useful?
Pros: I've only changed the oil and done maintenance; nothing else has been wrong with it. It is really roomy for both passengers and luggage/cargo. I love the removable rug in the back and the plastic do it does not get dirty. It's an Element minus the poor gas mileage and a little less cargo room.
Cons: It can be a bit noisy on the highway but that's to be expected. Other than that I have no real complaints.
Overall review: It's a great car, but they are hard to find for a good price used. I got lucky but it was a base model value as well. If you look carefully and are patient you can find a great deal. It is definitely spacious enough to use as a family car. The gas mileage is really good especially on the highway, even with an automatic trans. This car will last a while and it's been GREAT to me. One of the best overall vehicles I have owned. I've owned a Suburban, Tahoe and 4 Runner and this one does everything those did minus moving furniture, but I never did that often enough to justify the expense. I think this is the ideal low gas mileage family fit, which enough flexibility for groceries, soccer balls/baseball bats, luggage etc.
