very dependable by arctic driver on 04/28/2011. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix XR 4WD, Owned 5 years.
Pros: In 5 years of owning this vehicle I have never had one problem with it. It's good on gas and fairly roomy for a smaller car, comfortable even on long drives.
Cons: It's not a big thing but of course with a small 1.8 litre engine if you have 4 people and luggage loaded you can tell the engine is really working to keep up on hills, etc. But just for everyoday driving it is more than ample powerwise.
Overall review: We really like this car and have told ourselves many times what a good buy it was.

Great at everything by An MSN Autos Consumer on 10/28/2005. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix 2WD, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: This car is a great at most everything. Gas mileage, comfort, quality, and even performance. The tie down system in back is really clever too.
Cons: Long shift throws on base model, a little overdone on the plastic on the inside, especially in back.
Overall review: This is a great car for the money and gets great gas mileage!

A Great Small Automobile SUV by DocMel37 on 10/07/2013. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix XR 2WD.
Pros: Owned 04 Matrix for 2 yrs then 06 since. Over 100K miles-no problems. Love the looks, size, comfort, ride, gets >32mpg, has plenty of zip for me and easy in/out acess. Car was a great buy and am sorry that the Matrix line as I knew it has been cut out for 2014. I will try for a later used one--say 2009. Not sure the later Matrix cars after 2009 were the same quality as 06. Call me one happy and satisfied Matrix owner.
Cons: The only negative--very, very slight---is the instrument panel lighting controlled by the "eye" dimmer on the top left side of the dash---why this thing does what it does, I will never know. I have learned to ignore the brights and dims of the dash lights as it is a very small down amid a ton of positives about the car
Overall review: Excellent car---sorry to see Matrix is not in for 2014

Great Little car by Linda Lou on 08/28/2013. Trim: 2006 Toyota Matrix XR 4WD, Owned 8 years.
Pros: I put 158,000 miles on this car. It was a fun to drive, good gas mileage, carried what I needed it to carry car. It plowed through snow. It was big enough with the back seat down to accommodate a foam mattress for camping purposes. Has good head room. When my grandson total it, he walk away with no injuries, not even a bruise.
Cons: I didn't like the red dash lights. I didn't like the lights for the gear shift coming on a bit to long after the car was started. It went through tires. I think because it had a 'strut' problem (I read this in some online info about 4 wheel drive Matrix,s. I also changed a back axle. We lived on a bumpy gravel road for 100,000 miles of this cars life which my have contributed to the axle problem.
Overall review: I would buy this car again. With grandkids, pets, and construction projects we were not easy on this car. It held up well under the use.
