Best all around car by BZZBZZT from Santa Barbara on 08/04/2011. Trim: 2006 Scion xB 5-Door Wagon, Owned 4 years.

Pros: I never wanted this car but my husband encouraged me to test drive it. At the time I was looking for a vehicle with back seats that fold down FLAT so I could put trays in the back. They are almost perfectly flat and there is a ton of head room so I can put tall items in it. I bought the car used and with leather seats. Easy to manuever. Went on a long road trip with my husband and our Beagle. Got roof racks with Thule storage box - great trip - Yosemite, Mendicino, Fort Bragg and Carmel. Lots of miles with no issues. Fantastic mileage - approx 38 per gallon with a full car.
Cons: No cons to speak of
Overall review: I would recommend this car to anyone.

First Generation XB, Seriously an amazing car all around. by Benjamin on 04/15/2012. Trim: 2006 Scion xB 5-Door Wagon, Owned 6 years.

Pros: The first generation Scion XB is very strange when compared to any other modern car available in the United States, but a very "good strange". This generation XB handles very well, it's very fun to drive, especially with the 5 speed. I was surprised at how quiet this car is, there is a lot less road and wind noise in the xb when compared to most other economy cars. The cabin feels as roomy as a good size minivan and the seats are very comfortable. Sitting in the back seat is like sitting in the back seat of a Lincoln Town car as far as comfort and legroom goes. This car holds up remarkably well, mine has 134k miles on it and to this day it never needs repair beyond scheduled maintenance.
Cons: It is very hard for me to think of things I dislike about the first gen XB. One small thing that annoys me is that I find it hard to tell my exact speed I am going when I am on the highway between the 70 and 75 range. The numbers are grouped too close together and to be able to tell your exact speed outside the increments of 5 is hard. Also 5th gear could have a higher gear ratio. When your traveling 70mph or faster it would be nice if the rpms could be lower. If I could put a sixth gear in it I would in a heart beat. Never the less the car is insulated for sound well, so engine noise is still very tolerable even at 80 mph.
Overall review: The first generation Scion XB is truly a remarkable car. If your looking for great fuel economy with out paying the price with lack of comfort and space look no further than the Scion XB. The experience driving this car is like no other. You feel like your driving a comfortable van, with a commanding elevated view from the drivers seat. The van like feel is added with a very good solid feel of the road as the xb holds the road remarkable well when taking sharp corners. It's like driving a van that handles like a German sports car, well....almost. Despite the enjoyable amount of "pep" this amazing little engine has you are sure to lose any drag races against any sports car. The Scion xb is still very fun to drive despite it's slight lack of power. My 2006 XB never needs repair. These cars hold up amazing well. Toyota hit it right with the XB. Buy one and keep it, these will be worth money years from now. The 1st generation XB is truly a ledged in the making.

Cool in Vegas by Harley Girl on 07/19/2010. Trim: 2006 Scion xB 5-Door Wagon, Owned 4 years.
1
Pros: My "Box" is a 5 speed manual. The ride and drive reminds me of my old '69 VW, a 90 mile an hour go-cart. Easy to maintain and easy to love. Super roomy for the 6 foot plus son, full drum kit and Chow Chow. She's black and decked out in chrome laced wheels, red neon throughout, limo tint and pin striping. Nothing "ugly" about this Box! With 40K miles we're just now getting the brakes done. Gas mileage is regularly 30+ city and she takes the inclines between Vegas an LA like a champ. Also have the Yakama rack so we can top haul kayaks, lumber you name it.
Cons: We replaced the stock radio - Yes, Pioneer should be ashamed of themselves. It would have been great if the back window opened seperately from the door.
Overall review: This is absolutely the least problematic vehicle I've ever owned. Keep her in clean oil and filters and she runs like something far more expensive. Sure "cruise" would be nice but with the size of the engine, I'm not willing to compromise fuel effeciency. We have to remember what we paid, WAY less then my Harley and the benefits definitely outway any baggage. Plus the resale is fabulous!! Like I would sell it :)

Box on wheels by Bob from Cincinnati on 06/16/2010. Trim: 2006 Scion xB 5-Door Wagon, Owned 2 years.
1
Pros: The view is great, very good gas mileage, with the back seats down, have room for my dogs. Has the options I wanted with 1 exception. Comfortable seats. Power isn't what I was used to but considering the size of the engine, no wonder it takes longer to get up a hill!
Cons: Do not understand why Cruise Control isn't standard on this vehicle. Of every car I've bought in the last 20 years, new or used, all have had cruise except for this one!
Overall review: I would recommend buying this car. Good for the young crowd and us older folks!

The car I didn't want, but it won me over. by Rob from Northeast Ohio on 05/04/2010. Trim: 2006 Scion xB 5-Door Wagon, Owned 4 years.

Pros: Four years and 100,000 miles later this car has had no problems. In fact, I just did the brakes for the first time (I drive allot of highway miles). Everyone is very impressed with the interior room, especially the amount of leg room. I average about 32 miles per gallon mixed driving and up to 38 mpg on long trips (without mountains). This is not the best car for mountains or big hills, but it’s not the worst. A great little cheap car, it’s worth every penny. I opted for the non OEM cruise control when I order the car and I’m glad I did. If you test drive it and like it, buy it, it's a good little ride.
Cons: My wife wanted this car and I did not, so I think I went into this not liking the car. The car is awesome because of its reliability; my comments are nit-picky; 1. We added cruise (now standard on the new model) 2. Trunk room is very tight (now larger on the new model) 3. We paid for the best stereo and it is the biggest piece of junk, I wish we would have deleted it and gone aftermarket. Pioneer should be ashamed to put there name on those Toyota radios, they’re all lousy compared to their aftermarket units. 4. The seats are uncomfortable for me (5’-9” 165lb). 5. The ride is rough, compared to other cars of similar size.
Overall review: Great car for the money and the resale value is almost ridiculously high around us. I think we will buy another xB in a year and hand this one down to our daughter. The car still drives, performs and looks as solid as the day we bought it. We did rust proof it living in Ohio due to our winters and salt on the roads. We own other cars, VW Beetle, 2500 Dodge Ram pickup, Jeep Wrangler and this car seems to be our go to car for everyday running around. If you miss the old xB and its mileage, the new xD is the same car with different styling.
