Don't overlook this gem! by NowDrivingAGrandpaCar from Michigan on 04/14/2012. Trim: 2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: Solidly built, great visibility, comfortable, nice amenities, safety.
Cons: Nothing yet!
Overall review: I'm a single mom with two teenagers who was looking for a second car. (First car is an SUV.) I initially looked at small imports (Jetta, Audis, etc.). I could not feel comfortable in any of them. Then, on a lark, I drove a Ford Five Hundred. I was shocked at how much I liked it! Comfortable, solid, and lots of window space. I have a thing about having good visibility all around, and this car offers GREAT visibility--an especially important characteristic for young drivers. So, yes, it's kind of a grandpa car, but it is a dream to drive. The car has 76K miles, and feels almost new. And because it's not the prettiest thing ever built, you can get a GREAT deal! I paid less than $10K out the door -- and that's less than I'd have paid for a much smaller, more stripped down car. VERY happy. I did the research: high reliability ratings, decent mileage (for the tank that it is), and outstanding safety ratings. Don't overlook this car because it's plain. It's a great car!

"3 Years 55,000 Mile" by Buy American on 05/09/2009. Trim: 2006 Ford Five Hundred Limited, Owned 3 years.

Pros: Command Seating, very smooth ride, great handling. I've gotten 28-31mpg since I bought it. The big wiper blades do not ice over in subzero weather. My family loves the rear heat and a/c vents, reading lights, cup holders, etc. Very good car to travel long trips.
Cons: Rear brakes, Rear brakes, Rear Brakes are terrible and cost almost $1,000.00 to fix at 55k miles; get ready to rent a car when you get them fixed because Ford dealers and part stores do not carry the Volvo brakes these cars use. I had to special order the 18" tires too; kind of scary if you're in the middle of nowhere and have a blowout.
Overall review: I like the command seating, the smooth ride, lots of room. I have a small Japanese commuter car that gets 35mpg; the 500 gets 30mpg since I bought it 3 years ago. 55,000 miles and all I've done is rear brakes, tires, and normal service routine. Great Car.

My first "certified" used car experience......highly recommended to all. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 03/04/2009. Trim: 2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL, Owned 1 year.

Pros: I love the looks of this car, from any angle. We bought our "500" used, with 9500 miles on the odo, and this being a 2006 model, it's like new. It's white with two-tone charcoal leather interior, simply gorgeous. Seating comfort, roominess, trunk space, and Ford reliability were factors in our decision to buy the car. We leased three Ford vehicles in the past, and never had a problem with any of them. This is our first Ford purchase, and, we were a little bit skeptical to buy "used", so, fingers are still crossed. We enjoy occasional road trips since we're both retired, and this car has all the qualities of a much more expensive luxury sedan. So far, no shakes, rattles or rolls.
Cons: This is a big car, then again, my wife and I aren't small people. Sometimes I have a problem getting this baby into a tight parking space, but, I guess, practice, practice. practice. Other than that minimal disadvantage, I can't think of one single thing I disllike about this car.
Overall review: We were lucky to find a three year old sedan with such low mileage, in "like new" condition, and reasonably priced, on a Ford dealter's used car lot. I haven't calculated the gas mileage on it yet, but according to the car's computer, it's giving us combined city and highway gas mileage in the mid to upper 20's and that's not bad for a big car. The six speed tranny is a pleasure to drive, no problems on steep hills, no problems passing slower traffic, we love this car.

Beautiful Sedan by Easy Rider from Orange County on 08/07/2008. Trim: 2006 Ford Five Hundred SE, Owned 1 year.

Pros: I love the look of this vehicle, it's beautiful, classy and always gets a lot of compliments, the back seat is very roomy great traveling car. I can get large adult males 6'4" and > with room to spare, I am very pleased with this purchase, my past experiences with the Ford Taurus almost kept me from purchasing another Ford. This car has redeemed my respect for the Ford sedans. The trunk is the largest I have seen, I had fit 5 suitcases in the trunk during a family trip.
Cons: The engine V6, is smaller so of course it doesn't have the power that you would expect from as mid-sized sedan, the rear-view mirror is somewhat obstructed by the sunglass holder, which I do not use because my none of my sunglasses fit into it. The center seat, in the back is very firm and not as comfortable as the rest of the seats in the car. I wish there was air vents positioned in the back seat as I drive with groups of people in this car often.
Overall review: A great buy for the price, I haven't experienced any major problems with this car and I do drive quite a bit. Very happy customer!

Ford Five Hundred 2006 by Jane on 06/30/2008. Trim: 2006 Ford Five Hundred Limited, Owned 2 years.

Pros: It is beautiful and makes a statement wherever you go. It is comfortable with lots of room insude and the trunk is great!
Cons: Brakes failed within the first 4000 miles. Air conditionning failed just after 45000 miles and no one seems to be able to repair it because it shows no leaks.Meanwhile, it continues to cost me as all sorts of experts diagnose and try to repair it.
Overall review: I love my car and want to have it for a long time. I only wish Ford would respond to my problems. All my adult life, I have only bought Ford cars.
