XTERRA-MY HERO SUV by Suzanne from Woburn,Ma on 01/04/2008. Trim: 2005 Nissan Xterra OR 4WD, Owned 3 years.
Pros: I have owned Nissans since 1978. This is one of the few SUV that still have a manual transmission. I love to drive this and it is exceptionally reliable and trouble free. Lots of cargo room.
Cons: I wish the front seats had more of a lumbar support and that the head rest was forward adjustable to give more neck support.
Overall review: I LOVE IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT IF YOU WANT A RELIABLE SUV FOR ON OR OFF ROAD! I HAVE OWNED IT SINCE IT WAS NEW<NOW 3 YEARS>

Great Vehicle for 4-5 years then it turns into a lemon. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/21/2012. Owned 7 years.
Pros: Great off road and stylish vehicle.
Cons: Worthless after about 80,000 to 90,000 miles to known problems. Transmission failure almost a given.
Overall review: To bad Nisan never owned up to the quality problems or offered any incentive to those who bought this Lemon. Everything I liked about this vehicle went South at 80,000 miles. Fuel sending Unit, Heat/air conditioning controls, and most of all the Transmission at 84,000 miles that was caused by a faulty desing of the cooling system allowing coolant into the transmission. I have never owned such a nice vehicle for offroad that turned into such a bad investment. This was my first Nissan and will have to say probably my last. I was looking at apprx 6,000 in repairs so I decided to trade it in on a Honda. If you own a 2005 take it to Nisan and demand they fix the problem before it's to late.

Problem Vehicle - Good For 80-90K Miles (turns into a money pit) by Zach on 12/02/2010. Trim: 2005 Nissan Xterra SE 4WD, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Functional utility. My Xterra has done just about everything I have asked it to do. I live in Utah and do a lot of outdoor activities in this vehicle. I have confidently used it to get up and down canyon roads covered in deep snow, off-road in mud and sand, and tow a trailer up some steep and gnarly mountain access roads to go camping in areas that others would never be able to access.
Cons: At about 80K miles I started having some issues. At first I thought that my "utility" use of the xterra had taken its toll, but upon further research of my issues I found that many others were having the same problems. The fuel gauge sending unit failed causing the dash fuel gauge to be useless, U joint failed suddenly and nearly caused serious drivetrain problems, the interior squeaks and rattles and for some reason doesn't quite block out external noise the way it used to, the motor that switches AC vents from defrost to straight on or floor went out, the CD player broke with a disc in it, and worst of all the radiator failed leaking coolant into the transmission, which nuked the tranny.
Overall review: The problems I have had with the Xterra have completely outweighed the things that I loved about it. I have two friends with 05 Xterras and they have both encountered many of the same problems including the transmission failure. It looks like this is due to a factory defect that Nissan is completely turning a blind eye to. I had a Pathfinder before this vehicle that I put over 170,000 miles on and thought that I would be a Nissan owner for life, but after all the headaches that the Xterra has given me and the complete lack of cooperation on the manufacturers part, I will not be purchasing another Nissan in the future.

Xtreme Xterra by Snow Lover on 03/17/2007. Trim: 2005 Nissan Xterra S 4WD, Owned 2 years.
Pros: Perfect for a young couple, with plenty of room for camping, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding gear!! Seats fold convienently for any size equipment. Driving over mud and snow has never been so much fun!!
Cons: The back seat is uncomfortable, hardly enough room for two adults. Very hard to get in and out of back seat, with narrow doors and little leg room. It's a very "trucky" ride.
Overall review: I love the truck. I've recommended to several friends who love it just the same.

Perfect SUV by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/11/2006. Trim: 2005 Nissan Xterra S 4WD, Owned 1 year.
Pros: The Xterra gives me the best of both worlds. Utility and refined ride quality that is hard to find in non-luxury SUV's. The styling is also something that set's Xterra apart from all the rest.
Cons: I can't figure out how to fold the front passenger seat flat. The manual say's that the Xterra can do this but I haven't figured it out yet.
Overall review: It's the best mid priced SUV that I drove. You get many features and functionality for your dollar.
