Perfect Commuter Car
by Gary in PA. on 10/14/2007.
Trim: 2005 Honda Insight CVT w/ AC, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
My comments are based on the purpose of this car, which is a basic commuter with an emphasis on fuel economy. It is not practical as a family auto, but it is a perfect vehicle for a long commute. I had been driving an Avanti for a 110 mile round trip and averaging 25 MPG. With the Insight, I am averaging 72 MPG while driving conservatively and still getting 51 MPG while having fun with it. Plenty of power for most purposes and NO problems climbing hills. Lifetime MPG displays 60.8 with 24580 on odometer.
Cons:
Sits too low to ground, but that is a very minor inconvenience. No center arm rest.
Overall review:
Would buy a new one today if Honda still made them!!!

The Most Fun on a Commute!
by Skeeter in Florida on 01/26/2006.
Trim: 2005 Honda Insight Hatchback w/ AC, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
Easy to handle manual transmission isn't tiring even in stop-and-go traffic.
It's fun passing motorcycles knowing your car has a smaller engine and gets better mileage.
The instant mpg and power readouts are addictive and encourage gas-saving driving habits.
Seats two adults in comfort with plenty of rear cargo room for lots of stuff: groceries, luggage, pets, kids gear, even trips to the home improvement store!
Cons:
OK, I admit the ride is less than stellar. But it makes you pay attention to the road better to avoid potholes!
It sits pretty low and when you're beat after a long day at work, it seems a long way up to stand up.
Overall review:
I absulutely love this vehicle because of its futuristic style, ease of handling and overall "cute factor!" The fuel economy is superb for all types of driving, and puts a smile on my face just to know I'm making less of a footprint on the earth. For a commuter, soccer mom (OK, only one kid) and date night car that didn't cost a fortune, it can't be beat!

What a bomb!
by Webb on 10/13/2005.

Pros:
Nice coloring, gas mileage
Cons:
Smaller than a shoebox, handles worse than a log truck, foreign built and much too small for family use. This car would only be recommended for a single person who does not care whether the car has any power (at 71 horsepower, next to my 1968 Buick this car is a walker) and only has it for the gas mileage value. Outside of gas mileage, there would be no way this car would even sell.
Overall review:
Has a nice stereo system, but lacks power and stability as well as good handling. This car is very light and feels every crack and crevace in the highway - a rough rider for sure. As far as a car that will be around for twenty five years maintenance free, I wonder if it could last ten years as cheaply built as it is. And when troubles start with the car, how expensive will maintenance be for the average consumer? This car is not user-friendly under the hood either - expect to pay big bucks to a mechanic if you have to have anything done to it. The value of the gas mileage does not outweigh the fact this car is cheaply built and rides badly.

Some Insight from me...
by Alain from Halifax on 08/17/2006.
Trim: 2005 Honda Insight Hatchback w/ AC, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
The mileage is excellent. It's a great car to road trip in. I've even slept in the hatchback a few times with my feet hanging over the front seat. Pickup is as good as any car I've ever driven. Maxes out at 185km/h, goes 150 no sweat for those long unpatrolled highways, I've gotten 0-100 in less than 6 seconds, not that it's a racing car, but it can do what it can do. In spite of my fast driving tendancies, I average 3.9-4.1 litres/100km on all trips to date. It must be a matter of preference, but I personally love the style of the car. It gets looks, and not negative ones. A/C is fast. My favorite is driving up to a gas station, washing the window, and taking off again without filling up!
Cons:
The interior is a little tacky. I'm thinking of re-upholstering, but it's plenty comfy. Suspension isn't wonderful, but it is a highway car. If the road is anything sub-standard though, you're in for a rough bit. Parts are a little tough to find and expensive. Someone replacing the tires lost a screw for the quarter-panel. It took 2 weeks and 20 bucks to replace the special screw. It's just a screw for heaven's sakes. Oh well, he payed for it. :)
Overall review:
I recommend this car to tons of people. Not a car if you have a family and want to get them around, but it's perfect for a student or couple getting to and from school or work, it's good for road trips, eye-catching, and so good on gas. At the rate gas is going, it won't take long for this car to pay for itself. Interesting note: the car looks kind of like a ladybug ready to take off with the doors and hatchback all the way open. (I guess mine would more than others - it's red.) This car has handled itself wonderful in the winter months, I've survived some very tough snow storms, and it always starts and runs reliably.
All in all, I think the insight gives a good name to hybrid vehicles, I'd even go as far as saying (in my limited knowlege) that it sets the bar.
