The Best, Affordable Sports Car Experience, bar none! by Zoom Zoom from Southern California on 01/11/2010. Trim: 2005 Mazda RX-8 Sport AT Shinka, Owned 5 years.
Pros: The ulitmate, moderately priced, sports car! Considering Mazda, as an automotive company, first built race cars long before their sporty production models, you inherit all the advantages in design, handling & performance, for half the price! From the stylish, sleek, stealth-like race car body to the comfortable, leather seats in the driver's cockpit, their's much to enjoy in the RX8. Paddle shifters on the steering wheel column allow you to experience a truely unique rotary driving experience ala a formula-one race car. The patented rotary technology allows you to rev the engine up to 7000rpm, even in third gear, before approaching dangerous redline levels in your driving adventures!
Cons: The RX8 is designed to be more quick than flat-out fast. A Corvette this is not. You must keep in mind the affordability, coupled with outstanding driving performance, when considering this vehicle. The other drawback would be the fuel consumption. If your looking for a few extra miles per fill-up, this isn't the sports car for you. If you want to experience better handling & overall performance, minus those few extra miles every fillup, than this is the car for you. At 5'10", 190lbs, the driving cockpit is comfortable yet slightly restrictive when it comes to head room for my frame. A couple extra inches in the cockpit would go a long ways to driving comfort in my opinion. No six-footers!
Overall review: When it comes to cost, performance & style, there really isn't much competition for your sports car buck than the RX8! I've had mine almost 5 years and have never had more fun on road trips. I might feel different if it was my primary car every day, but i doubt it. The low to the ground design makes getting in&out of the cockpit a chore occasionally but a minor blemish to the overall driving experience. Six-footers & over 200-pounders may have difficulty being comfortable in the RX8. It is designed like a race car so that must be taken into consideration. A Honda Accord this is not. If you really enjoy the driving experience, the RX8 is a great, affordable, sports car option for you.

"Gotta love the Shinka!" by Revving it up in the ATL on 05/09/2009. Trim: 2005 Mazda RX-8 6-Speed Shinka, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Unique styling; excellent handling, excellent value for the money (if buying used). Love the color (exterior and exterior). Smooth engine, great features, 4 doors. Acceleration is good, but not great.
Cons: reliability reputation.
Overall review: This is a really fun, practical sports car. The Wankel Renesis is the smoothest engine I've ever experienced in a car. Great ergonomics, aesthetics, etc. On the not so good side, the higher maintenance (i.e: frequent oil top-offs), poor gas economy, and low HP (compared to the competition) are things to be aware of. Earlier models were known to have lots of engine issues, which I believe have been fixed in the later year models and after recalls. Overall a very fun, extremely well balanced vehicle that you can share the fun with 3 friends. The Shinka trim has the best options and colors in my opinion. If you are interested in this car, make sure you do your research before you buy.

The Slowest Sports Car on the Road! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 01/29/2009. Trim: 2005 Mazda RX-8 6-Speed Shinka, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Well, it's a rotary. I guess that helps you sleep at night knowing you have 238 hp at almost 9000 RPM!!!!
Cons: If you like getting left behind at stoplights by buicks, this is the car for you. If you love the feeling of being grossly underpower, buy this.
Overall review: Waste of time and money. For the same money or less you can go a lot faster.

Great sports car for the money! by Happy Owner from San Diego, CA on 01/24/2009. Trim: 2005 Mazda RX-8 6-Speed, Owned 4 years.
Pros: I was impressed with the handling on tight turns and curves. The interior looked modern and the hugging bucket seats gave it a racecar feel. It's a 4-seater with good enough space for average height persons. They also get 2 cup holders in the back. I still get compliments on the car's exterior looks years later. The stock Dunlop 8090 Sport tires lasted me 30K miles. Although acceleration is not the greatest compared to expensive sport cars, it drives like a dream at highway speeds. I like the unique engine sound, not too quiet, not too loud. Also, for this type of car, the trunk fits a surprising amount. I can fit 2-3 carry-ons depending on how stuffed they are and then some.
Cons: Although the interior looks modern, the center and front consoles are plasticky on the regular model. Center sliding console easily broke 2 years in, but it's still functional. I fixed 4 things under waranty/recall so far: Spark plug recall, rear lights lens under warranty for allowing accumulation of condensation, sun visors for literally melting off one hot summer, recall for computer software reset for improved engine power. I get 19-22 mpg. Oil has to be checked avery couple K's, so if you're not the type to be on this when needed, you might want to look for another car.
Overall review: I guess some things gotta give (plasticky feel of the interior in the basic model, fabric upholstery, not the hottest acceleration), but you get so much more in handling and a great looking exterior that will be noticed for years to come. Upgrade the interior for a few more K's. This car definitely stands out in a sea of blah cars.

Goog RX-8 by jayson1567 on 02/10/2008. Trim: 2005 Mazda RX-8 6-Speed, Owned 3 years.
Pros: It's really pretty car and the rotary engine.
Cons: The car it's to slow for my self it's fast but you don't have the emotion of a sport car.
Overall review: if this car came in a future turbo or supercharger it;s going to be the best one for me and for a lot of other persons that i know
