Not so reliable by chloe on 12/04/2006. Trim: 2005 BMW X3 3.0i, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Good size, drives well in the snow, good seating position, controlled steering
Cons: Not very reliable and service technicians can't seem to fix the vehicle without a bulletin or assistance from BMW engineers. Major quality issues, including replacement of belt tensioner and pulley (twice) and parking brake, mold/mildew problems in A/C at 8000 miles, transmission reprogrammed, numerous rattles, hatch had to be realigned, airbag mat replaced, botched "free" oil change so oil leaked everywhere. Vehicle only has 12,000 miles and has been in the shop 40+ days in 10 months. It had to be towed three weeks ago because it wouldn't start, and still don't have it back. The only explanation the dealership has is that it may have been bad gas.
Overall review: Beautiful vehicle when I have it. For $41,000 you would expect better.

Poor choice for a used car by Hud on 09/16/2013. Trim: 2005 BMW X3 3.0i, Owned 8 years.
Pros: This car basically imploded on me. I had the extended warranty which reached the 7 year max before the mileage wore out. To exacerbate things my dealer here in Louisville was a total disaster. This is a really neat little car for those who do not need a full size SUV, and those who appreciate the driving experience. The ride is way harsh in the city, but these things really shine out on the open road at 70mph. Just don't buy one that is out of warranty. My dealer misdiagnosed a problem several times under warranty then refused to make thing right 100%. An new 3.0 in one of these cars is $6K+
Cons: Ride was harsh. No need for such a kidney crunching experience. Many auto makers have figured out a way to make cars handle without jarring your teeth out.
Overall review: Great if they are under warranty.........take out a loan if they are not.

One great car! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 09/25/2011. Trim: 2005 BMW X3 2.5i, Owned 5 years.
Pros: I've just sold my x3 2.5 with 193,000 miles to a good friend for his daughter. What does that suggest about the car? This X3 remains tight, everything works, handles like it did with 14,000 miles, strong power train and no leaks. Over all these miles I've changed a ball joint (under warranty), a ball joint arm, airconditioning lines (under warranty), brakes, battery, one radiator hose and just replaced the spark plugs. That's it! I change the oil (synthetic) every 10,000 miles or so.
Cons: Although the ride is stiff . . . this suspension provides for a very good cornering car. No other real complaints.
Overall review: This car has been such a pleasure to drive that I just purchased a new one.
