Pilot Buyer Beware by Disappointed Family in Sandy on 10/14/2011. Trim: 2005 Honda Pilot EX w/ Leather, Owned 3 years.
6
Pros: MPG was a great improvement over our mini-van, heated seats, styling cargo room with the 3rd row folded down. We liked pretty much everything about our Pilot except what I have noted below.
Cons: Our Pilot started to have a shimmy at 35-40 MPH in city driving. We did research and found that this is a common occurrence on the Pilot. We got rid of it because it was estimated that it would cost around $4000-$5000 to replace the transmission and torque converter. The cargo space behind the 3rd row is lacking. Don't get me wrong, we loved this car, but decided to rid ourselves of a recurring problem. Do your research.
Overall review: We bought our Pilot 3 years ago to be a long-term family car. We had always loved them and were thrilled when we were able to get a great deal on a 3-year old pilot. The gas mileage was great and even improved our city MPG over our old mini-van. There was ample room for our family. We were very disappointed when the Pilot started to shimmy between 35-40 MPH. We did research and found that this is a common occurrence on the Pilots built before 2008. The transmission and torque converter begin to fail and will require replacement. Look at shelling out $4000-$5000 to replace both. Honda knows this is a problem, but won't do anything to address the problem. We always thought Honda was known for their quality and reliability, but when there are hundreds of complaints we found online without Honda taking responsibility for a known recurring problem, we were extremely disappointed. BUYER BEWARE THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER ARE A KNOWN PROBLEM.

Another Honda Fan.. by Rodo Video on 12/04/2004. Trim: 2005 Honda Pilot LX, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: Typical Honda, Good all around. Solid yet smooth highway ride. Plenty of power on the road. Huge interior space.
Cons: No heat only ac to rear seating.
Overall review: We are Honda fans so we are probably biased on our comments, but this vehicle is the best suits our needs. It has 5speed Automatic, 4wd/awd, It will seat 8(ok 7 adults) It is the roomy space of a mini-van with the sure footing of a 4X4 in snow.

Great reliable awesome vehicle. by Nikki on 04/07/2012. Trim: 2005 Honda Pilot EX, Owned 4 years.
1
Pros: Enough room for 8 people, towing package option, electrical plugs for DVD players, cell phones, etc. Quiet ride, low maintenance, fun to drive, helpful dash board lights and warnings.
Cons: Low gas mileage, it could be better in town.
Overall review: I like everything about this vehicle. I have owned my Honda Pilot for 4 years and cannot be more happy! I like the reliability of the Pilot. It is comfortable, quiet, and has enough room to take 8 people on a trip. Yes, the cargo space once the 3rd row is up is very small. We bought a cargo carrier to attach to the towing package. It holds what we need and leaves the inside of the vehicle free for people instead of stuff. I like all of the plug ins for DVD players, cell phones, and any other electronic devices we can bring along. There are plenty of cup holders and spots for all passengers to be comfortable. No mechanical issues, or out of the ordinary maintenance needed.

Honda Pilot JUNK by JIMC on 04/06/2012. Trim: 2005 Honda Pilot EX w/ Leather/DVD, Owned 5 years.

Pros: I liked almost everything about the vehicle until it hit 100,000 miles! then look out, the money pit is opens up.
Cons: In '07 I bought a low mile pilot. Soon after I started to hear about a transmission issue with the Pilot, and several other models, sure enough, it happened to us also. It turns a nice vehicle into a pile of expensive JUNK
Overall review: In '07 I bought a low mile pilot. Soon after I started to hear about a transmission issue with the Pilot, and several other models, covering a span of 4-5 years. Seem that Honda is sweeping it under the rug, they refuse to acknowledge it, or do anything about it. This issue was not well known when I bought the vehicle, but soon after I started to hear about it. Sure enough, at 101,000 miles, the transmission takes a dump, now I have a $12,000 vehicle that needs a $4,000 transmission. This will be my last HONDA! BUYER BEWARE I guess the bean counters won, they cheapened the vehicle enough to make money, and loose customers at the same time. I guess the bean coun
