Luxurious and Unique by Bill from Chicago on 03/21/2005. Trim: 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton V8, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: The interior is extremely comfortable and has the quality of a room in a five star hotel. The seats can be adjusted to virtually any position you desire and the massage is a great tension reliever on long drives. The engine is extremely powerful and is solid when passing. There is enough horsepower to accelerate when you need (or want) to. The stereo system is the best I have heard in any car. period. You will also be the only one driving this vehicle which makes you stand out from the non-descript crowd of BMW's Mercedes, Jags, etc.
Cons: The navigation system is worthless. VW really needs to update the software. From a dead start, the vehicle is not sluggish, but not quick, beacuse of its weight of over 5,000 pounds. You won't be winning any drag races but you will be able to win when you are at speed and need to accelerate.
Overall review: Excellent Vehicle for the money. Less costly than the high-end, more features and power (and AWD) than any car in its price range.

Love this car. by An MSN Autos Consumer on 11/21/2008. Trim: 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton V8, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Great handling and ride. Reasonable mileage in town (17ish) good on highway (23 to-24). All in all the best driving automobile I've owned ( Compared to Audi A8, Lexus LS430, and Mercedes E320). Looked at it because I liked my Audi A8 and thought it would be comparable. Surprised at how much nicer it is. Closer to a Bentley than an Audi.
Cons: Don't really have many complaints except that the tire monitor is rather erratic and the navagation is sub par for a car of this level. And, having to remove the bumper to replace a headlight is not good design. Resale value is not great, but for used car buyers like me that's really more of a positive.
Overall review: Great car; more elegant than ostentatious.

Motorcar Perfection by Dermdoc from Rhode Island on 10/25/2008. Trim: 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton V8, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: My last car was a Lexus LS 400 arguably the greatest sedan ever built. I find the Phaeton to be in a different class. It's smoother, faster, more comfortable, and unlike the Lexus has great mojo! It has immense presence and timeless styling. The interior is world class and the sound system is concert quality. This is a stealth luxocruiser of the highest order. Incredible motorcar.
Cons: The only bothersome feature is steering feel that is a bit too light. My guess is that VW corrects this when the Phaeton reappears in the US for 2010.
Overall review: Find one and buy it!

Amazing by An MSN Autos Consumer on 05/29/2008. Trim: 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton V8, Owned less than 1 year.
Pros: Best car I've ever driven. Far above my wife's Audi A8L, and I thought it was a great car. I've owned Mercedes S and E models and a Lexus LS430 and there is no comparison. Used prices are very reasonable to cheap. Most people don't even know it exists. Good mileage for a car this large and heavy.
Cons: Navigation could be better, and rear window is rather small, but nothing major.
Overall review: Would defiinitely buy another one. Wish VW hadn't quit selling this car over here.

The one that got away by Fra Dog from Phila on 10/08/2006. Trim: 2005 Volkswagen Phaeton V8, Owned 1 year.
Pros: The German car with a very reasonable price for the current list of vehicles in the market section, drop dead exterior, front end(lights) interior seating.
Cons: very very very problemitic, electrical system faulty, nav sys slow, stero sys is cheap for a 70+ vehicle.
Overall review: could've been a winner if vw would have put more time into vehicle
