The "almost" Hybrid GMC Sierra
by Jake (Anchorage, Alaska) on 11/13/2006.
Trim: 2005 GMC Sierra Hybrid 1500 SLE Ext. Cab 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
The 300 horses as well as the built in 110 generator. Comes in handy on job sites and while camping!
Cons:
The regenerative braking and the constant start/stop in traffic.
Overall review:
I got a steal from the dealer, but hey, as long as the Hybrid system is covered by the 8/80... I have no worries.

2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid

Pros:
In my opinion, GMC has always made a quality pickup. I like the little thoughtful details in this 2005 truck. Comfort is acceptable as is handling and accelleration. While the Bose stereo is a bit of a disappointment, it is, nontheless, a good sounding unit. Controls are handy and I particularly like the tilt wheel.
Cons:
My biggest disappointment in this pickup is the fuel economy. It is no better than the non hybrids I have owned but substantially more expensive. Real world fuel mileage for me has been about 15.2 in city driving being VERY nice to it and under 20 on the freeway on trips. As a comparison, the 2004 4x4, 2500HD, crew cab Duramax diesel I traded got an overall 15.8 mpg. I traded thinking the hybrid would get better economy on cheaper unleaded gasoline - wrong.
Overall review:
In retrospect, this vehicle is an interesting idea but offers the buyer no advantage over a comparably equipped non - hybrid model. In fact, having owned the 4.8L in this same truck, I believe the 4.8 is a better, less expensive overall package than the hybrid I have. The difference in accelleration is negligible, the fuel economy IS better, and the price is lower.

Pros:
I get 50MPG+ in this truck. Dont let these other reviews fool you. I have the 5.7L version, with dana front and rear axels, allison transmission, and 44" mud boggers.
Cons:
The 200 amp service that supports the 4 outlets is meager at best.
Overall review:
Great truck, better mileage than some electric/gas hybrids
