BEST EVER
by JRPEM from OHIO on 02/23/2012.
Trim: 1999 Ford F-150 XLT Reg. Cab Long Bed 4WD, Owned 9 years.
3
Pros:
reliability and preformance, I have the 4.6L and oversized tires by alittle and get 16 plus mpg. I pull livestock and haul 10 cord of wood a yr. plus alot of hay and straw. Have a very bad back and the ride and ease of getting in and out is top notch. Rides way better than my wifes 08 G-6. With only a 170,000mi on it I drive it everywhere even when the wife and son go somewhere. It looks like new with some wear and deserved scars just just adds to a great look.
Cons:
I guess the fact that it's gone. I'll keep this one forever but try a new one in about two or three years and keep this one for daily chores.
Overall review:

Justly Voted Truck of Year -- Should be Truck of Decade!
by Texasfastdraw on 01/31/2009.

Pros:
Five on the floor. Heavy rear end gear ratio. Great gas mileage. Getting to ready to hit 250,000 mi.
Cons:
There is nothing to not like about this truck!
Overall review:
This truck has had required less maintenance over the years than any other truck I have ever owned. I change the oil religiously. When truck was wrecked (totaled out by insurance) I bought another bed, gas tank and I plan on another 250,000 miles.

Very very bad truck!!
by Tom from Pittsburgh on 12/24/2008.

Pros:
Looks great. Runs strong. Very comfortable.Interior well laid out. Ride is very smooth, although I have 4 wheel drive but not the off road edition. Rides like a car.
Cons:
Major engine problems. Right side head leaks oil at rear of head, onto exhaust manifold.Known problem. Had TSB on it.Happens in a lot of different models of cars/trucks/vans with the 5.4L with and L in 8th position of the vin! Costs almost $3000.00 to repair! $1900.00 in labor alone! Only seeps oil so I let it go. But have to check oil constantly and put up with burned oil smell a lot. No recall! Amazing!! Constant break problems. Replace pads twice a year. Replace rotors about the same. Have never replaced rear shoes. Self adjusters don't work. Doors cracking near window. Known problem. Ford denied knowledge. But has TSB's on it. Replaced exhaust manifolds at 65000 m.Known problem.
Overall review:
Although the truck looks good, has a lot of power and rides smooth, with some wallowing in the corners due to soft suspension, I would not recommend it to anyone. In fact stay the heck away from it! Gas mileage is terrible. About 13 mpg. average. Ford used cheap Chinese bolts and metal for the heads. Had the new parts in stock. New stainless steel bolts. Everything needed in stock. Tell you anything? They knew that debris and been left in between the heads and block near a high pressure oil port in a lot of these vehicles but decided to see if the warranty expired first. Better not buy this truck. Like a ticking time bomb!! Or a fire waiting to start. Not enough burned that's why no recall.

Great truck
by Ford lover from SC on 09/27/2008.
Trim: 1999 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab Flareside 2WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros:
Truck looks and rides great. 4.6L V8 is pretty decent on gas mileage with 16/19. Could get more mpg on the interstate if you keep it around 65mph. Has been very dependable and overall a great truck.
Cons:
Not a lot of room in the back seats but then again its not a crew cab.
Overall review:
Very dependable, great looking, great running, only minor maintenance needed. Over 100,000 miles and still going strong.
