Pros:
Handling, room and comfort and ability to carry cargo very well. The fuel economy is always in the twenty to twenty-four mpg range.
Cons:
Nothing
Overall review:
The car has been superb in all areas. I have driven from the lowlands of the USA through the mountains. I know cars, and this one is a "must have" for SUV people.

Pros:
Very stylish, you won't see this one coming and going like the Escape. Nice fuel economy on this one.
Cons:
Only complaint is I wish I had gotten the V6, acceleration quite poor with the 4 cylinder.
Overall review:
Would definitely buy again and recommend this one to others. You won't be dissapointed.

mission falure!
by Hotrod from pickerington ohio on 01/18/2009.
Trim: 2005 Mercury Mariner Premier 4WD, Owned 4 years.
Useful?
Pros:
Nimble, easy to park, easy to drive, not to many blind spots, 4wd system, sound system
Cons:
here the fun begins - transmission falure(be sure to read overall review), complants of rear seat comfort, long distance travel, acceleration, so-so fuel economy
Overall review:
It is overall an alright car to drive around town and to and from work. HOWEVER One day while I was trying to merge on I-70 my tranny went out. I accelerated steadily-accelerated-accelerated, then at around 25mph VROOOOOOOM. My tachometer reached 6000 and my speed was decreasing. My mariner couldn't get out of second gear. It was quite scary actually, i couldn't get above 25mph and i was merging onto a major freeway. Needless to say I immidietly got off the highway and I was able to limp home. I will give it that, it still got me home and didn't leave me stranded. Here is the kicker, My car only had 36,500 miles on it! The warrenty is 3yrs/36,000miles! I fought with Ford and got it fixed for free under warrenty. Now, as soon as i got it fixed my milage dropped from around 20-21mpg down to 18. The car now has 60,000miles and i can feel the transmission slip/lunge, that indicates that it is going to go out soon again. I plan to trade it in soon for a new Mercedes ML 320 bluetec
