The Ultimate Money Pit by Windstar - NEVER AGAIN on 08/12/2003. Trim: 1998 Ford Windstar GL, Owned 5 years.

Pros: Nice and roomy. Road fairly smooth at first.
Cons: The head gasket and transmission problems we have had.
Overall review: We bought this van in 1998 with 16,000 miles. Transmission was replaced at 32K, 75K and it went again at 100K. We just donated this piece of junk. It was the worst investment we have ever made. We had a Ford Explorer that had the same problems. Loyalty to Ford no longer. We will never purchase another one again.

`The Minivan that can or not ? by Windstar Guy from Indianapolis,In on 07/12/2003. Trim: 1998 Ford Windstar GL, Owned 3 years.

Pros: The vehicle overall is ok The interior is set up pretty good -controls and seating are nice. The seats are very easy to remove -I was really impressed with that. Air vent distribution is really great .You`d be suprised to see how many vans do not have vents in the rear where your kids are.Yikes?? Wife likes the safety record.Have not replaced any exhaust components yet?? That`s unusual. Again wife likes the vehicle and wants a new one.Me being a guy I have some issues-see cons.Oh"the engine" works really well-just oil changes and tunes so far.
Cons: My biggest complaint was having too replace the transmission at around 60,000 miles-which I felt was little to soon for that to happen.I also replaced the master brake cylinder, pads etc about the same time and the brakes have never been the same since then. The front end assembly in general is real suspicious.Ford I hope has improved this since this model year.I believe you will have some nightmares down the road.Replace those door sensors. It`s real annoying driving with the chimes ringing and kids in the car.Don`t bother-it`s not a fuse.Since I changed the tranny the engine light is still on.Nobody knows the code.
Overall review: My first experience with Ford was brand new 1973 Maverick.Cute little car-at the time.It dropped dead at 70,000 miles.I was so angry and disappointed I swore I would never buy another Ford vehicle again.`Found On the Road Dead ` had hit home. Now the Windstar is pretty good vehicle and it has served us rather well since we have owned it.We are a one car family so we have driven it everywhere. It has over 100,000 miles on it and I always wonder -What` next. There are some reliabilty issues.

How do you spell LEMON 98 windstar by TICKED OFF FORMER WINDSTAR LOVER on 09/27/2003. Trim: 1998 Ford Windstar GL, Owned 6 years.

Pros: smooth ride, powerfull engine, safe, good sound system, good interior seating and design
Cons: Worst trans, engine blew after 150.000 miles and replaced. Trans replaced at 100000 miles ( broke down 5 times,) dealer lied and claimed it replaced trans. They are now out of business after reporting their factual lies. Door switches constantly show that doors are open and are not, thus causing alarms to go off. Of course all was out of warranty This vehicle was used just to drive around town. I am 52 years of age and not a road racer.
Overall review: This piece of junk has cost us more than money. To have it towed at least 6 times due to lousy workmanship is way too much to bear. Never have we spent so much money on such a lemon. The dealership has had me waste my time over and over again by not accomplishing what needed to be done, which should never have been in the first place if Ford would have paid a little more attention to their product. Ford should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!

1998 Ford Junkstar GL by Scott-Vernon Hills, IL on 09/19/2003. Trim: 1998 Ford Windstar GL, Owned 5 years.

Pros: (No data provided)
Cons: Is it normal to replace a transmission at 53k miles? Ford told me to "go scratch" when I approached them regarding a good-will gesture after spending $2,400 to replace a transmission that is known to fail very frequently. For everybody's information: There is already a class-action lawssuit pending for the 1995 Windstar. Please also beware of front-end ,springs and tie-rods failing as well. Ford should step up to the plate and take care of this piece of garbage before it bites them in the backside.
Overall review: Would never buy another Ford car or truck. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The LEMON van. by John from Ohio on 08/12/2003. Trim: 1998 Ford Windstar LX, Owned 5 years.
2
Pros: It is still running.
Cons: The transmission has gone out. The door alarm goes off for no reason. The suspension springs make a popping noise when you hit a bump. The brakes have been replaced twice. The rear window wiper motor has been replaced. The drivers door window motor needs replaced. Can you say LEMON?
Overall review: We have had way too many problems for a 1998 vehicle. The cost to keep this van on the road makes it almost worth while for the wrecking ball. We will NEVER buy another Ford vehicle. Do you want to buy ours?
