Smooth, auto climate control works well, plenty of power with the DOHC, wood trim, comfort.

It has been the "perfect" car. I have owned it for 7 years and only done basic maintenance. No repairs at all.

Not your average family sedan
by Ron from the Central California Coast on 09/18/2009.
Trim: 2005 Mercury Sable LS, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Strong acceleration. Handling belies the car's size. Firm, supportive seats. Up to 31mpg on the road at 60 mph. Nice wood accents. Very quiet, with some road noise, but not intrusive. Insurance rates under $600/yr (with multi-car discount and clean driving record). Impossible not to find a great driving position with the 6-way power seat and adjustable pedals. Very roomy, with a huge trunk and pass through if needed. Nice, clear gauges with white faces. Top marks in reliability. Since the Taurus sibling has been a top seller for years, parts should be available for years, and many mechanics know the car. Replacement parts are incredibly inexpensive for the most part.
Cons:
Sound system not up to the standard of Japanese competitors, and since the stereo unit is built into the wood in the center console, I'm not sure if it can be replaced easily. The brakes are good, but would be very good to excellent with rear discs instead of drums. Car dives during hard braking which is disconcerting at first, but is nothing major.
Overall review:
Nice, comfortable driving experience. 24v DOHC 3.0 liter moves the car impressively quick since it only weighs about 3200 lbs. Other reviews have said that power is lacking, but I have had no such experience. Quick steering response and impressive grip with very minimal lateral roll. Other owners have been putting incredible miles on these cars which tells how reliable and durable it is. Repairs should be relatively inexpensive and parts easy to find. Overall I would give the car an 8 or 9 out of 10.
