Too Much Turbo Lag
by Honest Reviewer from USA on 10/15/2011.
Trim: 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
I love the way this car looks, especially in electric blue. The lowered suspension, big chrome wheels, and rear spoiler make it look like a real sports car. The interior is very nice with black leather seats and every option you could ask for as standard equipment. I also have to admit the exhaust sound is reasonable for a 4-cylinder.
Cons:
I bought this car because of all the professional reviews about how fast it was and how powerful the turbo made it. Unfortunately they forgot to mention the throttle had to be over halfway down to get any of this performance. Anything less than half floored and you have a slow, weak base-model PT cruiser. Even if you do really get on it, you have to sit there and wait for the rpms to hit over 3000 to feel the turbo finally kick in. Had I known this small detail, it would still be setting at the dealership where I bought it. Also, the brakes aren't the best at stopping the vehicle, they shed dust like they were made of sand, and they fade dangerously quick under heavy braking.
Overall review:
Visually, it can't get any better. But in terms of performance, Chrysler should've just lengthened the hood a couple inches and fit the 2.7L V6 like they originally planned. At least then it would have a little torque in the rpm range where 95% of driving takes place, between 1500 and 2500 rpms. Some people may enjoy high rpm driving, but I tend to judge the performance of a vehicle by how well it takes off at intersections and accelerates at low throttle in the low rpms, and this engine just doesn't have it there. Because of this and the less-than-par brakes, I couldn't recommend this car to anyone unless they were already satisfied with the base-model PT cruiser.

Stylish and Affordable
by Mich from Mass on 01/28/2011.
Trim: 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Convertible, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
I love this car! It's a smooth ride, nice and quiet. Handles real well and very comfortable. It's a beautiful car with nice interior. The standard transmission is very easy to drive and it's great on gas. So if your looking for a cool and stylish, but affordable, economy car; The 2005 PT Cruiser Touring Conv. is it!
Cons:
The only things I would change on this car is the way the trunk opens. Would be easier if the door folded down or opened to the side. And I would have cruise control.
Overall review:
Overall, this car is great. I absolutely recommend this car to anyone. Not many cons. This car has made me nothing but happy.

What a car!

Pros:
PROS: At $13,500 brand new at the end of the year, I was prepared for a mediocre driving experience and was I wrong. Performance, handling, ride and economy were all just great. No one can believe we are flying up the Continental Divide at 70 in 4th gear or in the 40mpg I get driving moderately on the Interstate.
Cons:
CONS: Well, something called the serpentine belt fell off and you have no way of knowing what a problem that iis until someone looks under the hood with some knowledge. The great performance and mileage come from an advanced type of 4-cylinder that has to be rebuilt to the tune of $1,100 if you run for long without a serpentine belt. Wish they had had something to notify me of a problem like they do when your fan felt falls off.
Overall review:
OVERALL: I work in hotels and part of my job is parking cars so I knew that the PT Cruiser's base model was a great bargain. I'm thankful when I fire it up and all my friends who have driven it like it, especially when they learn what I only paid the Chryskler dealer for it off the showroom floor. I'm half tempted to buy and store a couple of low-mileage PTs like my own to have for the future now that they sadly stopped making them.
