A Must Buy by Bob from the vegetable aisle on 12/24/2008. Trim: 2004 Nissan Xterra SE 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
4
Pros: One of the best vehicles I have ever owned. It can haul everything I need, has ample storage and back seat room, and looks fantastic. Performs well for a large SUV. The roof rack is amazing and very easy to use.
Cons: The engine...I should have waited and purchased an '05 with the huge bump in power and even better fuel economy. But, I will say I love the styling on my '04 better.
Overall review: Awesome truck, very capable, does everything I need it to and does it very well. Does not have the driving qualities of a sports car, but hey, if you want that in an SUV you need to look at the car-based poser SUV's. The Xterra is a real truck.

Not the greatest SUV out there.... by Fairfax, Virginia on 05/18/2009. Trim: 2004 Nissan Xterra SE S/C 4WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros: Plenty of potential for more horsepower with supercharged engine. big cargo room for midsize SUV Overalll design Low maintenance
Cons: No leather seats Front legroom and rear legroom(rear has almost no legroom). Very noisy engine. Upholstery material (tiny holes make clean ups extremely difficult) Better material could be used for interior Small instrument panel Poor MPG Rear doors too small and seat padding is too high (about 7") Small middle console, few more cupholders won't hurt Front bumper tend to get loose after a while Brain surgery if need to replace front turn signal or parking light (need to remove entire headlight housing.... screwdriver won't do it need WRENCH!!) Door compartment is almost impossible to reach bottom if your hands are more than a inch thick
Overall review: Would I buy another one??? Maybe not...

OK Xterra by CT from Durango on 02/05/2009. Trim: 2004 Nissan Xterra SE 4WD, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros: Cute styling and I don't have any problem with the interior style. Drives nice on dry paved roads. Mine is an '04 4x4 with auto tranny. Bought it used with about 47000 miles on it.
Cons: You would think with all the plastic, it would not be so top heavy. I get about 20 MPG if you don't push it. Weak horsepower, oh yeah. It doesn't seem to like wet roads. Fish tails a bit.
Overall review: It is OK, but I would not buy another.

A natural remedy for speeders by Realist on 11/16/2007. Trim: 2004 Nissan Xterra XE I4 2WD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: Owned approx 6 months. Tough styling, good build quality. Rough ride gives you the feeling that it will handle some decent pot holes. Feel large and in charge on the road, but that's about all...just a feeling. Actual specs are a different story. Read on...
Cons: I have the 4cyl, and it sounds like the power/gas mileage problem is applicable to the v6 as well. Friends, don't believe the gas mileage ratings. With the 4cyl there is so little power you are driving pedal to the metal everywhere to keep from getting rear-ended; this affects your gas mileage. I'm consistently getting 17 mpg combined per tank (and this is manual tranny). On windy days with rolling hills it struggles to even maintain highway speed. In more recent models the 4cyl was discontinued for obvious reasons. Towing is a joke on the 4cyl. If it won't pull itself, how will it handle another 3500 lbs?
Overall review: A decent truck if you want the SUV feel but are terribly afraid of power. Nissan is always rock solid quality, but this truck should never have made it into production with the tech specs it has. Needs re-engineered to be lighter, thereby increasing performance and gas mileage. As a light-to-mid size suv, why does it need to weigh 4k pounds? Had on 03 Frontier Crew Cab and similar story: barely average performance for not so great gas mileage. Newer models have upped the specs a little, but your best bet is CVT. The Murano V6 looks good on paper but I have not test drove. 2008 Rogue is getting excellent reviews too.
