Money making creativity needed!!!
by Florida Voyager on 08/13/2008.
Trim: 2004 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S430, Owned 4 years.
2
Pros:
Style, comfort, ride, audio sound.
Cons:
- Frequent brake downs (ac sensors, tire pressure sensors, transmission). Have to say, problems started at 65-70K
- Costly parts and service (oil change or "A"-"B" service - $260-340, set of tires every 20K - $1100, brake sets $300-500/rear-front, wipers - $65/pair, license frame - $100, cup holder - $100, labor - $100/hr
Overall review:
Excellent stylish car for low or moderate usage.
- For cars more than 50K would highly recommend extended warranty.
- Get rid of it at 100K (no one gives extension for warranty after this point)

The best luxury sedan - if you don't need to lock the trunk
by grandma's husband on 02/08/2006.
Trim: 2004 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S55 AMG, Owned 2 years.

Pros:
Best all around luxury performance sedan. IMHO nothing comes close even at twice the price.
Cons:
You cannot lock the trunk, Mecedes claims it is to prevent someone from being locked in the trunk but there has to be other alternatives. If you valet the car the trunk is always open to the valet. The valet key only operates the glove compartment, so what do you do when you go shopping or on vacation with luggage? I have been told you can modify but that factory authorized dealers will not do so and the cost exceeds $2,000.
Overall review:
Great car if you don't need to lock the trunk. This is not unique to the S55, it also applies to all the S models. Hopefully the 2007 will fix the problem.

Goodbye Lincoln, hello MB S500
by Taloncav on 01/07/2005.
Trim: 2004 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S500, Owned 1 year.
1
Pros:
I like the roominess and comfort of the rear seats, the outstanding Bose sound system, the quietness of the cabin without wind noise, and the superb ride. The interior cabin is so quiet you can barely here the engine running. The tire pressure guage monitor is great as well as the ability to fold in the side view mirrors when parking in tight spots. Navigation system is a definite plus.
Cons:
For the price of this vehicle, the rear park assist should be standard. The power lumbar should be a small simple button rather than a huge lumbering object behind your calves. Front cup holders seem cheap prone to breaking. The wood and leather steering wheel and wooden gear shifter should also be standard rather than an option. Transmission seems a bit sluggish at times.
Overall review:
Overall, this car is excellent. For the last 18 years I have owned Lincolns and decided to switch to an S500 after falling in love with its sleek styling. I have owned my S500 for a little over a month now and must say that I am impressed. I never thought I would sway from Lincoln; it looks like that day has come...

Ultimate in Luxury and Performance
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 11/08/2004.
Trim: 2004 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S430, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros:
This vehicle has excellent handling and while driving doesn't really seem as large as it is. There is plenty of rear leg-room. The Nappa leather (an upgrade) is very soft and comfortable on long trips. The electronics are great as is the MB phone system (also an upgrade). The V-8 has plenty of horsepower and accelerates quickly on both freeway and mountain roads. The electronic trunk close is also nice (but often problematic for friends unfamiliar with the car and try to manually close it). The sunroof is larger than in most other cars. Definately worth the luxury price. Also nice that it only has to be serviced every ten thousand miles.
Cons:
A few minor problems. Sensors on the automated computer system fault a few times. But, Mercedes always repaired the problems quickly while giving a loaner Mercedes. Expensive to maintain. Service is not frequent but definatly expensive. Tires have to be replaced every ten to twelve thousand miles and the tire rotation and oil change are pricey. But, most who can afford the eighty thousand price tag wouldn't complain about maintenance.
Overall review:
Excellent handling and ride. The S-Class has only few minor problems. Great engine. Worth the price tag and the extra upgrades...though the V-8 has caused a few speeding tickets.
