The Best of the Rest.
by Gunner on 10/05/2008.
Trim: 2004 Lexus LS 430 Sedan, Owned 5 years.

Pros:
You're driving down the road. A semi comes from the opposite directon. Unless you SEE it you don't know about it because you certainly don't HEAR it. And the sound system is quality to the utmost. Handling is superb. Gas mileage is pretty darn good (about 20 in town) for such luxury.
Cons:
Only one complaint. When all the doors are closed, they don't fit together like I expect. Not a tight, smooth edge from front door to back door. Both sides.
Overall review:
Have owned many cars. Many models. No question, LS430 is the best ride and I feel the most proud behind the wheel.

2004 LS 430, "STILL AHEAD OF IT'S TIME!"

Pros:
This 2004 has features that are just hitting the market on other vehicles. Air Conditioned Seats: Love it! Automatic Distance and Braking Cruise Control: Works Perfect, completely awsome! Lights that turn into a curve and adjust automatically: Best night vision of any car I've ever owned! The best factory offered stereo on the planet: Slams Bose! Smoothest Engine on the planet: Has been since 1989. Voice Command of stereo and climate control: Works Great! Back up Camera and all around sensors: Love this feature! Feels solid as a tank at 75 mph: Yet quite as a mouse. Understated Luxury: Lexus owner's don't need to flash...we get our WOW every time we get behind the wheel.
Cons:
That Lexus does not offer a Turbo Diesel. Until you've had 400+ ft. lbs. @ only 1600 plant you back in your seat haven't lived. Gasoline engine "Peak Performance" numbers normally can't be reached short of 5,000 RPM's. I don't drive like that and it doesn't appeal to me. Feeling 400 ft. lbs. at every stoplight does. However I don't think Lexus has any future plans for an LS 460 inthe States.
Overall review:
The head of Rolls Royce was fired for driving his 2004 LS 430. The head of Ford Motor Company was caught driving his 2004 LS 430 in Detroit. For 18yrs the LS 400 series has been the best built car for the money in the world. I've always loved Mercedes, BMW, and AUDI sedans. If you have an inner need to be flashy and look like a million buck, this may not be the car for you. Buy a "Big Benz" or "Big Beemer". If you want to feel like a million bucks, and drive a car that is built so well it feels as good in 3yrs as when you bought it? This may be the car for you. However, as much as I love this car, I'm going to trade it in on a 2007 E300 Bluetec Turbo Diesel. I'll probably be sorry

Buyer Be Ware - Lexus LS430 is a money pit

Pros:
Everything. Great for the busy executive that wants luxury. However read the cons. Lexus forgets who makes them one of the best- It's their Customer.
Cons:
Good unless in accident. My fully loaded 2004 $70K+ LS430 was rear ended by min. insured driver Aug 2004. Est. impact ~30 mph. No one hurt, no airbags deployed, no trouble lights & car was completely drivable. Lexus recommended repairs be by Lexus Dealer...this was 4 months ago. I still don't have my car & Dealer & Lexus Corp IS NO HELP in its return. My Admin assist. calls for status often. Car is ALWAYS 1 day-1wk away from pick up. Std. response is it takes time, waiting for parts from Japan. All I can say is, buy this if you will never get into an accident. Oh, by the way,if you get hit in the right rear, get ready to pay over $20K+ for repairs & 4+ months of rental on your own nickel!
Overall review:
Lexus & its dealer have made close to $100K on a car advertised to start at $55K. I paid $70K+ for my new 2004 LS430. I was rear ended and now a rear end impact at ~30 mph. will cost MY insurance company $20K+(surprisingly all major electronics had to be replaced,ie, Nav, Sound, etc). I have lost more than 33% of my Warranty in a Lexus shop (4 mo so far). Lexus recommends that I buy a $3K extended Limited Warranty. Lexus Corp Customer Care IS NO HELP. They sympathize but cannot DO A THING to help. Now my Lexus made $70K+ on car +$20K+ on repair $K's on rental +$3K on Warranty = Lexus made ~$100K+. Be careful, Lexus WILL PICK YOUR WALLET every chance they get.Remember, I'm a busy executive upset with the excuses Lexus gives me so I have my Admin. Assistant follow up, everyday. If you get hit, get ready for excuses including "it takes time", "all technicians are qualified", "we waiting for parts to come from Japan", "industry std. repair time is $1K/wk". THE HYPE IS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE.

Pros:
great car!
Cons:
Lets be Lexus not BMW or Mercedes. There has been a slight drop of in quality and reliabilty. This is my 5 Lexus and i notice that this is the only car i have had 4 problems with. Please go back to less problems. Also we need syling away from being like the other brands that is the only downside to the LS. Ihave and LS but dont like the exterior. I love the inside though.
Overall review:
Great car but a few slip ups lately. Still i am a Lexus man. But if problems continue i will make a move. Lets get back to basics. Also the price for an LS was $35,000 for a 1990 LS now its between $56,000-$58,000 base. I can understand inflation but this is not good Lexus is known for being less in price to other luxury brand. With ultra package now you are paying the same. Dont become the same stay true to thode who belived in your product before your fame. Your being hollywood with these prices. There isnt that much inflation in 10 to 14 years if it is were in trouble in this country.

Pros:
This car has good attributes, but in light of the outrageous problems I have had with it thus far, I cannot recommend this vehicle to anyone.
Cons:
Lexus reliability scores are plummeting to all time lows.
Overall review:
Lexus reliability? Yeah right... this thing has been in the shop for practically more time than I have had it. Where do I start? The alternator quit working two after I drove it off the lot. Then the fuel pump went out and the car wouldn't start so I had to have it towed to the dealership at my expense. Aside from these ridiculous mechanical problems, the plastic door handle on the passenger side broke off when my wife was opening the door. I can't believe I paid 70 GRAND for this lemon. Never again!
