The little van that couldn't by cash cow from Detroit, MI on 05/26/2003. Trim: 1996 Ford Windstar GL, Owned 1 year.
Pros: Comfortable seating arrangement, great for a family, hauling kids to school, etc.
Cons: Probably the worst car we have every owned. Problems with the head gasket started at 80,000 miles which Ford will not cover. Please note that head gasket problems have plagued Ford Windstars and Ford has agreed to fix the problem through the 1995 model year. Unfortunately, this leaves the owners of the 1996 models out in the cold.
Overall review: My advice: DON'T BUY ANOTHER FORD!

I LOVE MY WINDSTAR by Kim Boston, Ma on 01/15/2003. Trim: 1996 Ford Windstar LX, Owned 3 years.
Pros: I bought a used 96 loaded windstar i love it !!! Comfortable seats roomy. i bought it at 52,000 mi and it now has 107,000 i bought it 2 1/2 yrs ago and really no major problems. KNOCK ON WOOD i travel from Boston to New Jersey 2 times a yr and also do a good amout of sunday driving roomy for kids and friends
Cons: i really have not had to much trouble i replaced the brakes 1 time i do have the rear sliding door problem but it happends only in the winter i think its a senser. the break light comes on but that is telling you to add fluid my check engine light stays on and it had a new trans when i bought it. wish i had the rear drivers side door
Overall review: well overall i love this van!!! i was just thinking about trading it in and getting a new van did some homework and all the mini vans out there seem to have trans and engine trouble so im keeping what i have and ill service it regulary and ill keep on trucking if looking for a mini van do your home work check every little detail but the 1996 windstar was top in mini vans

BEST VAN YET DONT LISTEN TO FORD BASHERS THAT NEVER EVEN HAD A FORD by SHAUN on 12/13/2002. Trim: 1996 Ford Windstar GL, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Everything functions well and always has good power and a good running vehicle no little rattles like some of my other vehicles have had. quiet going down the road very comfortable.Never had any problem with the supposedly problematic 3.8 I love it dont listen to people bashing this van I have one and my parents have two if they are so troubled one of ours would have broken or needed repair by now
Cons: listening to people bash your excellent van cause it is a ford but they have never had one but they know they suck from experience right. I have had over 30 vehicles in my life time and this is one of the best and my fords always have been jeep is up there too so ignore those people bashing any imperticular make of vehicle they are just spreading misinformation
Overall review: excellent vehicle would rather be driving my mustang or jeep but with the kids this is the best one so far and i have had 3 different ones by different manufactures and this is by far the best

Cons: we have had so many major repairs at only 86,000 miles. cracked head gaskettes, muffler got eaten up form the inside out, brakes go bad all the time. we have put on 4 sets in 2 and half years, many other problems
Overall review: i will never buy a ford windstar again. new or used
