Love my "Exploder" by Cindy from Birmingham on 02/23/2012. Trim: 1996 Ford Explorer XLT 4-Door 2WD, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros: I bought this in 1998 with 26,000 miles. I now have 360,000 miles. I have not put any money into this vehicle other than routine main and tires. Still looks good. Interior in great shape. I love everything about this vehicle. Looks good, great looking rims, adequate cargo space, not so high you need running boards but not so low you feel like you are sitting on the ground, good speed control and handling, dashboard gauges not lights, very comfortable seats, just to name a few things. I would not hesitate to buy another one or recommend to anyone who is considering one.
Cons: Nothing.
Overall review: Maybe if I get 500,000 miles on it, Ford will give me a new one just for fun!!!

"thanx america" by AussieExplorer on 05/13/2010. Trim: 1996 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD, Owned 8 years.
1
Pros: I liked the look's of the truck, great for towing, liked the dash set out in it, leather was easy to keep clean, it was the ideal family truck, liked the 2 way tailgate on it was very handy in tight car park's. And still went well with over 200,000 kilometer's on it.
Cons: i didn't like the black strips on the back fading all the time, didn't have the best fuel consumption and that was running it on premium unleaded, didn't really have many mechanical problems only that when it was getting to the 200k's it was starting to get a minor rattle in the motor but my ford dealership said it was nothing major and it youse to squeak allot underneath. And i found parts are very expensive for the ford explorer's in australia. And the limited isn't very suitable for our beaches.
Overall review: best truck i have ever owned, great towing, great look's, very easy to keep clean. would recomend one to anyone and i work for a used car dealership and we get heaps of them in we are very popular for selling them so good on youse america great truck

My Truck NOW by Jaybirdm on 04/09/2010. Trim: 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4-Door 4WD, Owned more than 10 years.

Pros: Very reliable bought for my wife brand new in 1996 to commute 50 miles a day no regrets. It never let her down. Used for vacations and very spacious. Very good looks and it still turns heads when cleaned up.
Cons: Replaced transmission twice has 350000 miles on it now used mobile 1 synthetic in engine. Outside door handles break and inside door handle break also. Replaced alternator, idler pulley and tensioner pullley now it is very quiet again under the hood. Not the best gas mileage now Getting about 15.5 miles to the gallon now.
Overall review: Great truck still looks good after 14 years and still looks good in any driveway. Very safe when maneuvering in snow or rain. No problem with sensors, fuel pump, water pump, starter yet.

BUILD FORD TOUGH! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 02/07/2009. Trim: 1996 Ford Explorer XLT 4-Door 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.
1
Pros: Parts are easy to find. Purchased for less than $1000 Since it is high miles, I don't have to care about how many more miles I put on it. No depresiation on a car with well over 200000 miles, almost at 207k now. Very easy to work on, and realiable
Cons: Ok, so its reliable, but I got it with 203k and ALL THE ORIGINAL PARTS, INCLUDING SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. Replaced plugs, wires, all O2 sensors, catalytic converter, fuel pump, tires.. What can you do though, no one EVER did any work on this truck before.. I also changed out the trans fluid.
Overall review: So for a vehicle with now 207,000 miles on the odometer, I guess I should expect to have to do some things.. But now it's running like a champ. Buy this one, it won't let you down! I guess it's true, BUILD FORD TOUGH!!
