Need reliaable AWD for snow - try this! by Walker on 12/28/2010. Trim: 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Premium, Owned 4 years.
Pros: Does what it's designed to do. No problems in 140K miles other than normal maintenance - which includes all synthetic oils and coolant change every 2 years. Bought from CARMAX w/47K Turbo engine and AT - almost as fast as my Mustang GT in 1st/2nd gears. Put on class 1 tow-hitch. Pulls 16ft outboard with no effort! Drives better than Jeep Cherokee I used to own when it comes to snow and much more civilized ride.
Cons: Wind noise around A pillars - and as another person wrote - "fog" light bulbs royal pain in the xxx to change!
Overall review: Would like a new one - except for the cost!

"Great Vehicle" by An MSN Autos Consumer on 06/09/2008. Trim: 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Premium, Owned 4 years.
Pros: I especially like the maneuverability and turning ratios. The AWD is wonderful in winter. I live in a steep hilly area and it is great that I can get around even in the snow and out of my neighborhood. I love the gas mileage--I get 28 miles to a gallon while commuting on secondary roads to and from my job. The interior and exterior of my car is in excellent shape. My favorite part of this mini-SUV is that sit higher than most compact cars and I like the back support in the seat.
Cons: Had to replace the first set of tires at 20,000 miles due to new car alignment not being set properly at factory or dealership. Tires were under warranty so they were replaced at no charge. Problem was the second set wore excessive before I reached my first 40,000 miles. I replaced this set with a high quality tire from another service and I am now at 60,000 with very little tire wear. I always rotate tires every other oil change. I believe the factory set are just a cheap set. Never had that problem before with any other make. Also have recently had to change the brake drums on all four wheels at about 60,000 miles. Not sure if this is normal wear or not.
Overall review: This is the best car I have ever had and I have tried the Mercedes 350; Honda Accord; Mustang Convertible; Chevrolet Grand Am; and Chrevolet Tahoe.

Subaru for Life by Missey from Europe on 05/09/2008. Trim: 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Premium, Owned 4 years.
Pros: This is my third Subaru. I was in an accident at 60mph in my 1992 Legacy and only had a broken hand. I had to sell my 2000 Legacy Outback due to moving and could not take it with me. I currently have the Forester. It handles exceptional well. I have all the power I could ever need even on the German Autobahn. I have had almost no maitenance problems with any of them.
Cons: I have seen a decrease in the interior quality. The climate control needs to be slightly adjusted.
Overall review: I would recommend a Subaru to anyone. I love the cars and I plan on buy a WRX soon.

I'll keep going back to Subaru!! by JP on 04/30/2008. Trim: 2004 Subaru Forester 2.5 X, Owned 2 years.
Pros: My second Forester was the 2004 and it was such a good, solid car. I've listened to so many "regular car" drivers complain about snow, ice, etc. I never had those problems with this Forester or the one I traded in to get this one (1998). Just traded it in for a Legacy which I love, but I do miss all the storage cubbies in the Forester! I really love the Subaru line - so many things that are "extra" in other brands are "standard" for Subaru, such as carpeted mats, keyless remote, etc. Between that, the AWD, and a good dealership, I'm a Subaru owner for life!
Cons: In my 1998, and from what I've heard from others, the wheel bearings go bad at around 60K miles, so keep this in mind. This is one of the reasons I traded this car in; I was at 38K miles, plus my husband's truck was paid off, so it was time to shop for something new. The rear hatch bar that's used to close the back door had some rusting/bubbling of paint, although my particular car may have just gotten a bad paint lot of paint. Didn't like the styling of the car; my husband called it a "giant roller skate". Also the Forester had a hard, "truck-like" ride.
Overall review: I do miss this car. I felt like it kept my family safe and it felt sold and reliable. Love the AWD!!!
