Maintenance Hogger
by Sanjay on 12/26/2010.
Trim: 2003 BMW 5-Series 525i, Owned 7 years.

Pros:
Good acceleration.
Cons:
This vehicle costs an arm and leg to maintain. Electrical gives persistent problems. It is designed to last some 3-4 years. You have to go to the dealership and they milk every client to death. Horrible experience overall.
Overall review:
Bad car to own in the long run. Unreliable and requires huge maintenance costs.

German krapsmanship.
by Rolf on 08/01/2005.
Trim: 2003 BMW 5-Series 540i, Owned 3 years.

Pros:
Great ride and handling.
Cons:
Too many niggling problems resulting in too much time at the dealership (10 trips in three years and only three for routine maintenance) for a car in this price range. Waiting lines in the service department should have been the first warning sign. Also, the dealership seemed indifferent, which led me to think that this type of service frequency was typical.
Overall review:
Avoid BMW. I will buy Japanese when the warranty is up.

Not worth it.
by New Orleans, LA on 10/11/2004.
Trim: 2003 BMW 5-Series 525i, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
When working, this car is wonderful to drive
Cons:
Poor build quality, rattles heard throughout the car.
Overall review:
This car is priced too high to rattle the way it does. I would expect it from a cheaper American car, but not from an expensive
