MANUFACTURER INCENTIVE
by David, Diamond Bar, CA on 01/24/2004.
Trim: 2003 Volvo S40 1.9T, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
Manufacturer Incentives! The incentive to the dealer (in the range of $4000) from the manufacturer - makes this model a can't miss (when available). This incentive is apart and separate from any discount you may obtain from a club store store i.e. Costco or Sam's Club. I coupled the dealer incentive (which the dealer passed on to me) along with a club store discount (Costco). I purchased the car $6K under sticker for approximately $22K plus tax & license.
If your interest is in the Sport Package, simply purchase the Leather Option. Then, add the rear spoiler, fog lights, engine compartment stabilizer bar and there you have it!
Cons:
If you're taller than 6', alighting from the driver side may be cumbersome. The seating seems to be designed for weight of no more than 220 lbs. By 16,000 miles, the feel (seating) is noticeably different. The seating of the S60 could have been incorporated here, so to provide a most comfortable driving experience. This vehicle is a "3 Seater" at best. With the driver seat configured to accommodate a 6' driver, the rear driver side seat may not be utilized. Move up to the S60 for a family of four.
Overall review:
When the manufacturer to dealer incentive is offered, I do not believe there is a better car in its class for the price. We went back and purchased a second and modified as indicated for our son.

Pros:
The Volvo is incredibly quick with its 1.9 liter turbo. The handling is wonderful and I love the styling of the car. The interior controls are easy to operate, though the sound system takes some figuring out. Love the smooth ride of this small car.
Cons:
Interior seating and style needs some work. Seats seem like they were made for Fords rather than Volvo.
Overall review:
Love the car. Would buy another in a heartbeat.

Pros:
It handles like a sportscar hugging corners and it has great pick up when needed.I like the overall look
Cons:
the size for comfort is less than I would like hard to actually fit 4 comfortable...not conveinant are the cup holders..very awkward to use as with most of the small cars visibility is a problem and being 5 '3 hard to have security when backing up.
Overall review:
having owned 2 jetta's...1999 and a 2001 mazda rx7 90...2000 ford explorer and 2002honda civic which was traded in for the Volve. I would buy this car over and over again for comfort and reliability
