2003 Volvo V40 Review by Toronto, ON on 06/27/2012. Trim: 2003 Volvo V40 1.9T, Owned 9 years.
Pros: from afar, it looks like the bat-mobile!
Cons: from close, it doesn't really look like the bat-mobile ...
Overall review: Been driving it non-stop for almost 10 years now. It's held up great, with the odd maintenance concern. Had some carbon build-up and electrical issues this past winter. But the engine's still responding nicely. Love this car.

Nice ride but expensive to maintain with reliability issues by An MSN Autos Consumer on 06/20/2009. Trim: 2003 Volvo V40 1.9T, Owned 6 years.
Pros: This car drives great, super stable, corners very well, feels very safe. The turbo engine with the 5-speed automatic provides a fairly quiet, very smooth ride with good and constant power without turbo lag. The interior is very confortable with quality materials and superb finish. Decent interior space and cargo capacity.
Cons: I've owned this car for 6 years since new... be aware that maintenance costs are ridicously expensive, all original parts are made in Europe and cost 2-3 times more than the Japanese and American brands. I don't recommend after market parts for this car, don't perform that well. It's not the type of car you take to a Jiffy Lube for service, not everyone carries Volvo parts, even oil filter, transmission opil is hard to find and try to get a quote at the dealer, you won't be happy. Brake pads, rotors, tires wear off quickly and are very expensive also.
Overall review: Nice ride, comfortable and safe. It's not a worry free car so I don't recommend it because of it's reliability and maintenance costs.

Fuel efficientk peppyk high safety rating. by Anne from Georgia on 12/26/2008. Trim: 2003 Volvo V40 1.9T, Owned 5 years.
Pros: I am short and love the excellent visability. I have the winter package and love the heated seats. My V40 is light green, it was nice to have some colour choices. I have always liked wagons and I have been impressed with the load capacity of this wagon.
Cons: The cargo cover is poorly designed also the latch to open the hatch is not comfortable to open.
Overall review: I have owned seven station wagons. This is my favourite.

Volvo needs to rethink some of it's designs by Sue/WA on 06/12/2007. Trim: 2003 Volvo V40 1.9T, Owned 4 years.
Pros: It is stylish, great turbo for passing or entering traffic on interstates, and easy handling. The leather seat warmers are nice in the winter months. Great a/c in the summer.
Cons: The leg room in the back seat is almost painful for adults. It would be great for little kids that don't have long legs that reach the floor. It would have been better if Volvo gave up some of the back cargo room to give the back seat more room for comfort. We will not take this car on long trips if we have anyone in the back seat. The dog does love the extra room in the back but the a/c has difficulty reaching him and we have to roll the back seat windows down for him to get cool air. Rolled down windows creates a painful auditory sound for occupants in the front seats.
Overall review: I wouldn't buy this unless I very little kids, or no kids at all. It does sit low to the ground and is difficult for an adult to get in and out of without help. For safety Volvo is one of the best cars on the market.
