One Serious Rocket
by Vlad on 06/26/2003.
Trim: 2003 Saab 9-5 Wagon Aero, Owned 1 year.

Pros:
This is one serious rocket
Cons:
Not important when you drive what you like.
Overall review:
This is one serious rocket. You have to think differently to drive this car. Do not buy this car if you consider anything else, go and buy that ‘else’. This car puts you in some kind of different state of mind. It is not better or worse than others, just different. Do not kid yourself and others.

One Fast Rocket WAGON
by Lynn, Missouri on 03/05/2004.
Trim: 2003 Saab 9-5 Wagon Aero, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Sleeper look of Saab WAGON. Better looking than competition. Roomy interior, with heated front & REAR seats. Cargo area is for serious cargo, especially with cargo-trak tie-downs. Quiet when moving, with no sense of speed, when actually you are moving QUITE fast! Not a me too car. This is one fast rocket at speed, and DEAD stable at any speed up to max 150mph. Reliable, comfortable, fast, handles well at 7/10th's, can be coaxed at 9/10th's.
Cons:
Traction control comes on too quickly, and stays on too late. Summer performance tires do not do snow, but buy snow tires, and you will go anywhere. Wary of what little GM DNA there is in my car. Not many on the road = lack of parts when & IF something were to go wrong.
Overall review:
I highly recommend the 9-5 wagon to anybody looking for an SUV alternative. I can not count how many times people have slowed down to take a look at my wagon, and all have had admiring looks, or the quizzical "Saab makes a wagon?" look. Plus, on the highway, I get a kick out of showing off the power to the young'uns.
If you do not need an SUV (and who really does?!), consider this car, a perfect compliment to our Subaru Outback wagon. We will keep this car for 500,000 miles if it holds up.

Looks great, but lacking everywhere else
by Allan, Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada on 02/25/2004.
Trim: 2003 Saab 9-5 Wagon Linear 2.3t, Owned 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
Well designed exterior, spacious interior (wagon), good instrumentation, lots of standard features, dependable, solid feel, even some snob appeal (...really!)
Cons:
Price, quirky electronics and interlocks, no retained power accessory for lifting windows or closing sunroof (VW does it so much better), same goes for the power seat when vehicle is off - to adjust seat, open door (this is wierd), poor power window switch location in centre console, excessive service costs (compared to Cadillac, eg: Oil Change - Saab: $95; Cadillac: Free), unfriendly dealer and service support.
Overall review:
Adequate vehicle, but not outstanding by any measure. Older engineering and features. Expensive vehicle, but looks better than most competition (especially the 9-5 wagon). I will not buy another 9-5 unless completely re-engineered with modern systems and features. The 9-3 is a much better vehicle, but I needed the wagon. Perhaps if GM would provide some much need cash for R&D (or even share their parts bin - retained power relay), Saab will begin to build products with much wider appeal.

Wonderful
by An MSN Autos Consumer on 02/09/2004.
Trim: 2003 Saab 9-5 Wagon Linear 2.3t, Owned less than 1 year.
Useful?
Pros:
swiss army knife for sure, very functional, economical (good gas mileage for a large car) comfortable and safe. Alot of people spoke about the turbo lag, hmm, not a big deal at all.
Cons:
one thing that bothered me initially with the 9-5 is the vibration u get from the engine, it takes a little time to get used to , but other than that, its an excellent car, so far (brand new)
Overall review:
I am very happy with the wagon, its an older design which fits the requirement of my needs. The dealership is giving great incentives to customers and thats another reason to buy this car. Overall, the 9-5 wagon is a terrific car.
