A Great Vehicle. by militarywife76 on 11/25/2008. Trim: 2003 Mercury Mountaineer Convenience 4.0L 2WD, Owned 2 years.
Pros: This is a great vehicle! My husband is in the military and he skates.(if you don't know that its just taking people place) With this vehicle it fitting people in this is unbelievable i think he has 5 people in the second row and 3rd row 3 or 4. The vehicle haldes great. The gas milage put it this way where i live its great for hwy driving. What is nice being able to put the 3rd row sit down and not you have lots of space for your items.
Cons: Now when it comes to city driving depends on the speedlimit if its like here 25 to 35 to 45 back to 25 than 35. well that eats the gas (like in any vehicle)
Overall review: I would give this an A++ its great all they way around great for a fmaily car and fun on roadtrips.

LUV MY MOUNTAINEER!!! by rab golfnut on 05/24/2008. Trim: 2003 Mercury Mountaineer Convenience 4.6L AWD, Owned 5 years.
Pros: I have owned it for 4 1/2 yrs now. Must say it does not have a truck-like ride or handling. Standard stereo not bad. Engine is very strong, smooth, transmission works really well. No squeaks or rattles, feels so solid, like it is carved from one piece. Very impressed with the build quality. Always feel safe & secure. i'm 6'3", fit well in driver's seat, & no complaints from passengers. Hauled my DJ equipment and it gobbled it all!! Really nice looking truck, classier than Explorer.
Cons: OE Goodyear Eagle LS automotive touring tires (not SUV) were horrible in the snow. Replaced with Bridgestone Alenza, much better steering feel & handling. Brake feel much improved after 4 wheel brake job at 45K miles. Had some issues with starter & battery, rear end & clutch pack, rear shocks, front ball joints, transmission pump, hood latch, all replaced under factory or extended warranty. Woodfield Ford has taken good care of me. Gas mileage only 12-14 on winter grade gas, improves to 15-16 on summer grade. it is a 4500 pound vehicle with a V-8 & the aerodynamics of a box after all!!!
Overall review: People compliment me how it rides/drives, much more carlike than a truck. I really do enjoy driving it, especially with the upgraded tires & brakes. wish I had gotten the luxury or premier model with the extra toys- miss not having the upgraded MACH stereo (like in my Sable), sunroof, CD changer, leather. Otherwise, no other complaints, I DO recommend. Might look for another one down the road - before Ford axes the Mercury brand-what a shame that would be!!!
