Not Professional Grade!! by An MSN Autos Consumer on 08/04/2008. Trim: 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext. Cab Long Bed 2WD, Owned 6 years.

Pros: It does have a smooth ride.
Cons: I bought this truck new thinking it was 'professinal grade.' However, in the six years I have owned it, I have had a repair a year and 1 recall - that's 7 'fixes!'
Overall review: Stay away from this truck unless you own a nice set of Craftsman Tools and enjoy catching up with the folks at your local parts store.

Z71 - test drive one NOW! by Roy from San Diego on 10/24/2003. Trim: 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext. Cab Short Bed 4WD, Owned less than 1 year.

Pros: i love the interior, satellite phone that comes with onstar (which is standard on the SLT model) and overall body styling. the bose system is absolutely awesome. best stock stereo i've ever heard in my life. absolutely no need to upgrade the sound system. i love the driver 1 and 2 settings. it'll remember your seat position, radio presets and a/c settings for each driver. the z71 is an incredibly solid vehicle. there is no comparison to the regular suspension on the sierra (or silverado) and that of the z71. you can corner at way higher speeds that the regular suspension and it's not as mushy.
Cons: what's up with the lag in power from the 5.3L 2000 silverado i had and this vehicle? my 2000 silverado would absolutely destroy my new 2003 z71 sierra off the line!! i guess it has something to do with the way the rear-end is geared in the z71 vs. the regular suspension of both the sierra and silverado. also, took it into the shop 3 times for air leaks coming in from somewhere. gm service cannot fix this and states that this is normal noise, YET, my 2000 silverado never had that problem. my 2000 was as quiet as a cadillac. the turning radius without the quadrasteer is a joke. forget u-turning. but is the additional $12,000 on the denali worth it?
Overall review: though i had the cons above, i must say that this truck is better than any chevy, ford, or toyota truck i've ever driven and i will absolutely buy another. the sierra looks more like a luxury truck than any other on the market. i'd say the same of the silverado, but that UGLY front end just makes me cringe. i was set on buying another silverado until i saw that freakish front end. checked out the sierra and fell in love. overall, i must restate this - get the z71 if you're going to get the truck. or just test drive it. you will be amazed at how absolutely perfect it handles and feels. not to mention, the z71 comes loaded to the hilt with all kinds of extra goodies.

Needy by An MSN Autos Consumer on 02/24/2013. Trim: 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Work Truck Long Bed 4WD, Owned 5 years.

Pros: plows well
Cons: my truck with very low mileage for the year goes through brakes like I have never seen, taken to dealership and they seem to think 19000 miles is fine for rotors to last. Repair costs have averaged 1,300$ every six months. Its no wonder people keep them so long you spend so much in repairs you can't save for a down payment on something different. (Like FORD different)
Overall review: drives okay horrible gas mileage plows well VERY NEEDY TRUCK.

Pros: Comfortable ride. Roomy interior. 4.8 ltr engine is quick for what is it.
Cons: Replaced front instrument panel. Odometer failed. Insurance paid for this.
Overall review: A decent truck would buy again.
